Aadhaar Holders to Access Online Address and Mobile Updates Without Centre Visit

The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) is set to introduce a significant update for Aadhaar holders, allowing them to change their residential address and mobile number online through the official Aadhaar app. This new feature aims to eliminate the need for in-person visits to enrollment centers, streamlining the process for users. The initiative is particularly beneficial for senior citizens, individuals with disabilities, and those living in remote areas, making it easier for them to manage their Aadhaar details without facing long queues or extensive paperwork.

Aadhaar App Enhancements

UIDAI has announced that users will soon be able to update their address and mobile number directly from their homes using the Aadhaar app. This development is part of UIDAI’s ongoing efforts to enhance user experience and accessibility. Currently, any changes to key Aadhaar information require a visit to an Aadhaar center for verification, which can be a cumbersome process. The new online update system is designed to simplify this process, making it faster and more user-friendly.

The authority has confirmed these upcoming features via posts on X, emphasizing that both address and mobile number updates will utilize digital authentication methods within the app. This means that users will no longer need to visit a center, significantly reducing the barriers faced by those who find it challenging to access these facilities.

Secure Digital Verification Process

The update process will involve a two-step verification system to ensure security. Initially, users will receive a one-time password (OTP) sent to their existing or new mobile number. Following this, they will need to complete face authentication through the app. This step involves matching the user’s live facial data with the records stored in Aadhaar, thus ensuring that the process is secure and efficient.

Users will be required to enter their Aadhaar number, select their preferred language, verify the OTP, and complete the face authentication. Additionally, they will create a six-digit security PIN to lock their Aadhaar profile within the app, providing an extra layer of protection for their personal information.

Preparation for the New Features

While these features are not yet available, UIDAI encourages users to download the Aadhaar app on their Android or iOS devices in anticipation of the upcoming updates. The authority has assured users that the digital update feature will be rolled out soon and has advised them to stay tuned for official announcements regarding the launch and detailed instructions on how to use the new system.

This initiative marks a significant step towards modernizing the Aadhaar system, making it more accessible and user-friendly for all citizens. As the rollout date approaches, users are urged to prepare for a more convenient way to manage their Aadhaar information from the comfort of their homes.
