“I can’t continue doing this,” she said quietly as she stopped the application partway through. At that moment, a woman approached them with a message from Damodar. “Damodar is calling for you because he wants to see how the mehendi looks on your hand,” she informed Gini. This request pleased Gini, who took it as a sign of affection from her dangerous husband. “Damodar loves me very much,” she said with satisfaction to Padma. “I wish Abhay also loved me the way Damodar does, but unfortunately Abhay’s heart belongs to Anjali.” She then made bitter comments about how her life had turned out differently than she had hoped. “If only Abhay had chosen me instead of her, everything would have been different,” she lamented.
