However, the opening match is expected to be held in Navi Mumbai due to scheduling conflicts with an ODI match between India and New Zealand, which will occur at the Kotambi Stadium on January 11. The Indian team will be in Vadodara from January 6 to 12, making it impossible for the Kotambi Stadium to host the initial leg of the WPL.
The tournament’s dates were moved up to January 2025 to avoid clashes with the men’s T20 World Cup, which will commence in early February and run for a month in India and Sri Lanka. This adjustment reflects the Board of Control for Cricket in India’s (BCCI) strategic planning to ensure that both tournaments can be successfully executed without overlap.
