Reliance Industries Unveils 1 GW Data Centre in Andhra Pradesh Following Google’s Investment
Andhra Pradesh is poised for a significant advancement in artificial intelligence infrastructure with Reliance Industries announcing plans to establish a 1 GW AI-focused data center in the state. This development follows Google’s recent investment in an AI data center in the region. The new facility will feature advanced processing units and is part of Andhra Pradesh’s strategy to become a major data center hub, aiming for a total capacity of 6 GW. The announcement coincides with a series of investment agreements expected to be formalized during the ongoing CII Partnership Summit.
Reliance Industries’ New Data Center
Reliance Industries has unveiled its intention to construct a state-of-the-art AI data center in Andhra Pradesh, designed to operate at a capacity of 1 GW. This facility will utilize cutting-edge technology, including graphic processing units (GPUs) and tensor processing units (TPUs), to support various AI applications. The new data center will be modeled after Reliance’s existing facility in Jamnagar, ensuring high efficiency and performance. This initiative is part of a broader effort by the state government to attract significant investments in technology and infrastructure, positioning Andhra Pradesh as a leading destination for data centers in India.
Andhra Pradesh’s Ambitious Goals
The government of Andhra Pradesh is actively working to establish the state as a prominent data center hub. Recently, the state signed an agreement with Google, which is set to invest in a substantial AI hub in Visakhapatnam. State IT and Electronics Minister Nara Lokesh has indicated that the government aims to achieve a total data center capacity of 6 GW. So far, agreements have been finalized for 1 GW with Google and an additional 500 MW with Sify. The addition of Reliance’s proposed facility brings the state closer to its ambitious target, further solidifying its position in the tech landscape.
Investment Agreements and Future Prospects
The announcement of Reliance’s data center coincides with the CII Partnership Summit, where the Andhra Pradesh government anticipates formalizing over 400 memorandums of understanding (MoUs) with various companies. These agreements are expected to include significant investments from major firms such as Brookfield, ReNew, SAEL Industries, and Hero Future Energies, totaling approximately Rs 2.5 lakh crore. Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has expressed confidence in the viability of these investments, assuring that they will translate into real projects within the next few years.
Commitment to Sustainable Development
In addition to the data center, Reliance Industries plans to establish a 6 GW solar power project to ensure a sustainable energy supply for the new facility. This initiative aligns with the company’s broader commitment to green energy and sustainable development. During the summit, Naidu emphasized the government’s dedication to facilitating genuine investments, stating that the cabinet has approved projects worth up to Rs 9 lakh crore over the past 16 months. He reiterated that the upcoming MoUs would further enhance the state’s investment landscape, potentially generating millions of jobs in the process.
