UIDAI Unveils New Aadhaar App for Secure Data Management and Profile Sharing

The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has unveiled a new Aadhaar mobile application designed for both Android and iOS users. This innovative app aims to enhance the management of digital identities, allowing residents to securely store, access, and share their Aadhaar information. With a focus on a paperless and digital-first approach, the app is set to transform how users interact with their Aadhaar profiles.

Key Features of the New Aadhaar App

The newly launched Aadhaar app introduces several key features that simplify the management of multiple Aadhaar profiles. Users can link up to five profiles to a single mobile number, making it easier for families to manage Aadhaar details for each member from one device. The app allows users to view their Aadhaar information on-screen and share it securely using QR codes or verifiable credentials, eliminating the need for physical copies.

Additionally, the app incorporates advanced verification methods, including face authentication and QR-code-based checks. This functionality enables users to verify their Aadhaar at various service points, such as hotels and shops, without the hassle of printing documents. The app also prioritizes user privacy, allowing individuals to share their Aadhaar number selectively and anonymously, thereby maintaining greater control over their personal information.

Setting Up the New Aadhaar App

To get started with the new Aadhaar app, users can download it from the Google Play Store or the Apple App Store. After installation, they will need to select their preferred language and enter their 12-digit Aadhaar number. The app will then send a one-time password (OTP) to the registered mobile number for verification. Once verified, users must complete a face authentication or live selfie check and create a secure six-digit password or PIN.

The app also offers biometric security options, allowing users to lock their profiles using fingerprints or facial recognition. Furthermore, it generates QR codes for verification and enables controlled sharing of Aadhaar data. Users can rest assured that their profiles will remain updated automatically whenever any changes occur.

Important Considerations

It is essential to note that the new Aadhaar app does not replace the existing mAadhaar app. Certain functionalities, such as downloading PDFs, ordering PVC Aadhaar cards, generating virtual IDs, or updating biometric data, still require the mAadhaar app or physical visits to Aadhaar centers. Users are encouraged to download the official app, developed by UIDAI, and to set strong passwords while enabling biometric security features. Additionally, it is advisable for users to carefully review all data-sharing requests to ensure their information remains secure.
