Union Minister of State Smt. Savitri Thakur Reviews Development Projects in Jiribam District
Union Minister of State for Women and Child Development, Smt. Savitri Thakur, embarked on a significant inspection tour in Jiribam District today, focusing on various development projects and schemes. Her visit aimed to evaluate the implementation of key initiatives and address local issues. Throughout the day, she engaged with community members and inspected essential facilities, emphasizing the importance of education, health, and women’s empowerment.
Inspection of Educational and Child Care Facilities
During her visit, Smt. Savitri Thakur made a notable stop at Lalpani Primary School, where she participated in the nationwide celebration of 150 years of “Vande Mataram.” Engaging with students, she highlighted the song’s significance in promoting national unity and drew inspiration from former President Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam’s advocacy for education. The Minister stressed the importance of lifelong learning and equal opportunities for girls, asking students about their aspirations. This event was part of a larger national celebration attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi.
The Minister also visited the One Stop Centre at Chingdong Leikai and various child care institutions, where she interacted with women and children. She received handmade bags from children at the Gulamchat Child Care Institution and directed the District Child Protection Officer to ensure regular health check-ups and nutritious meals for the children. At the Kadamtala Anganwadi Centre, she was briefed on health check-ups and nutrition tracking, emphasizing the need for comprehensive services for pregnant women, lactating mothers, and adolescents.
Health and Infrastructure Assessments
Smt. Thakur’s tour included an inspection of the District Hospital at Ningsingkhul, where she interacted with medical staff and patients. She reviewed various facilities, including the Jan Aushadhi Kendra, OPDs, and the Immunisation Centre. During her visit, she administered the Oral Polio Vaccine to infants and inquired about the prevalence of Sickle Cell Anaemia and the benefits of the Ayushman Bharat scheme. The Minister instructed the Chief Medical Officer to prioritize cleanliness and hygiene within the hospital.
Additionally, she visited the Ningsingkhul Bio-Diversity Park, where she participated in a plantation drive, planting a Bokul tree and paying tribute to local freedom fighters. She expressed her hope that the park would become a popular recreational spot and directed the construction of boundary walls to enhance its appeal. The Ningsingkhul Development Committee took the opportunity to submit a memorandum outlining their needs and concerns.
Community Engagement and Development Initiatives
At the Sonapur Amrit Sarovar Site, the Minister inspected the Amrit Sarovar ponds and assured local residents that she would forward a proposal to enhance workdays under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS) to the relevant Ministry. Her visit to the 87 Bn. CRPF in Uchathol included attending the Vande Mataram commemoration, where she acknowledged the selfless service of the jawans and emphasized the importance of women’s empowerment.
Smt. Thakur also reviewed the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) houses in Lakhipur Ward-9, interacting with beneficiaries to understand their experiences. She assessed the ADB-funded Kalinagar Water Treatment Plant, ensuring that local infrastructure meets community needs. At the PWD Guest House in Babupara, she observed the “One District One Product” initiative and encouraged participants from self-help groups to take advantage of government benefits.

The Minister’s visit was marked by a warm reception from the local community, particularly the women of Jiribam. Deputy Commissioner Shri Krishna Kumar welcomed her and provided insights into the district’s geography, livelihoods, and connectivity. He expressed optimism for continued central support to enhance local development.
Accompanying Smt. Thakur were several senior officials, including the Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Women and Child Development and various district officers.
