DRDO Conducts Thematic Session on ‘Electronics & Semiconductor Manufacturing’ at ESTIC 2025

The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) is actively participating in the Emerging Science, Technology and Innovation Conclave (ESTIC) 2025, taking place at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi from November 3 to 5, 2025. The event, inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, focuses on the theme “Viksit Bharat 2047 – Pioneering Sustainable Innovation, Technological Advancement, and Empowerment.” Organized by 13 government ministries and departments, the conclave aims to foster collaboration among various stakeholders in the science and technology sectors.

Launch of Research Development and Innovation Fund

During the inaugural session, Prime Minister Modi announced the launch of a significant Rs 1 Lakh Crore Research Development and Innovation Scheme Fund. This initiative aims to cultivate a research and innovation ecosystem driven by the private sector, accelerating India’s journey toward becoming a global hub for science and technology. The Prime Minister highlighted the importance of enhancing research and development efforts within the private sector, emphasizing the government’s commitment to fostering innovation across various industries.

Key Themes and Sessions at ESTIC 2025

The conclave features a series of talks by prominent scientists, panel discussions, and technology showcases. These activities provide a collaborative platform for researchers, industry leaders, and young innovators to strengthen the science and technology ecosystem in India. DRDO is playing a pivotal role in the event by leading a thematic session focused on “Electronics & Semiconductor Manufacturing.” Dr. Samir V Kamat, Secretary of the Department of Defence R&D and Chairman of DRDO, will chair a technical session on this theme on November 5, 2025.

Advancements in Semiconductor Technology

Semiconductors are crucial components in modern technology, powering essential systems in various sectors, including healthcare, communications, transportation, defense, and space. DRDO has made notable advancements in semiconductor technology, particularly in developing indigenous methods for producing 4-inch Silicon Carbide wafers and fabricating Gallium Nitride High Electron Mobility Transistors capable of handling up to 150W. These innovations are expected to enhance India’s capabilities in the semiconductor domain significantly.

Participation and Focus Areas

ESTIC 2025 is set to attract over 3,000 participants from academia, research institutions, industry, and government, including Nobel laureates, distinguished scientists, innovators, and policymakers. The discussions will revolve around 11 key areas, such as Advanced Materials & Manufacturing, Artificial Intelligence, Bio-Manufacturing, Blue Economy, Digital Communications, Electronics & Semiconductor Manufacturing, Emerging Agricultural Technologies, Energy, Environment & Climate, Health & Medical Technologies, Quantum Science & Technology, and Space Technologies. This diverse focus aims to address pressing challenges and explore opportunities for sustainable innovation in India.
