APEDA Supports Initial Export of Fortified Rice Kernel from Chhattisgarh to Costa Rica
The Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) has successfully facilitated the first export of 12 metric tonnes of Fortified Rice Kernel (FRK) from Chhattisgarh to Costa Rica. This initiative supports the Indian government’s “Kuposhan Mukt Bharat” program, aimed at combating malnutrition through the distribution of fortified rice. The export not only enhances India’s nutritional outreach but also highlights Chhattisgarh’s growing role in the global food supply chain.

Mukesh Jain, President of The Rice Exporters Association of Chhattisgarh, also expressed gratitude for APEDA’s assistance and indicated plans for further FRK exports to new destinations.

Fortified Rice Kernel (FRK) is produced by mixing rice flour with essential micronutrients, including iron, folic acid, and vitamin B12. These nutrients are extruded and shaped to resemble rice grains, which are then blended with regular rice to enhance its nutritional value. The export of FRK highlights India’s technological advancements in food fortification and its dedication to improving global food security and nutrition.
