Enshrinement of Holy Jore Sahib at Takhat Sri Harmandir Ji Patna Sahib

A significant moment of reverence and celebration took place at Takhat Sri Harmandir Ji Patna Sahib on November 1, as the sacred Jore Sahib—blessed footwear of Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji Maharaj and Mata Sahib Kaur Ji—was ceremoniously enshrined. The event was attended by Shri Hardeep Singh Puri, the Hon’ble Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas, along with a large gathering of devotees. This ceremony marked the culmination of the nine-day “Guru Charan Yatra,” which saw the holy relics journey from Delhi to Patna, drawing thousands of devotees along the way.

A Journey of Devotion

The enshrinement of the Jore Sahib followed a deeply spiritual nine-day journey known as the “Guru Charan Yatra.” This pilgrimage began in Delhi and traversed through Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, and Bihar, embodying a spirit of devotion and honor. The sacred footwear was escorted by the Panj Pyaras, who led a procession that symbolized unity and sacrifice. Along the route, thousands of devotees gathered to pay their respects, creating a vibrant atmosphere filled with faith and emotion. The procession not only highlighted the significance of the relics but also fostered a sense of spiritual solidarity among the participants.

Significance of the Ceremony

During the ceremony, Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri expressed the personal significance of the event, recalling his family’s long-standing service to Guru Maharaj. He noted that his ancestors were entrusted with the sacred relics over 300 years ago. The event was further honored by the presence of Bihar Governor Shri Arif Mohammad Khan and spiritual leaders from various faiths, showcasing a harmonious gathering that celebrated communal brotherhood and reverence. This collective participation underscored the importance of the Jore Sahib in the Sikh faith and its role in uniting diverse communities.

Preservation and Custodianship

Prior to the Yatra, the custodianship of the Jore Sahib was officially transferred in Delhi to the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee and the Takhat Sri Patna Sahib Management Committee on October 22. This transfer set the stage for the nearly 1,500-kilometer journey, reaffirming the spiritual connection that devotees share with the Tenth Sikh Guru and Mata Sahib Kaur Ji. The Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts (IGNCA) played a crucial role in validating the authenticity of the 300-year-old relics. They prepared a conservation framework and implemented necessary preservation measures to ensure the relics were enshrined with full authenticity and sanctity.

A Lasting Legacy

The sacred Jore Sahib is now permanently enshrined at Takhat Sri Harmandir Ji Patna Sahib, the revered birthplace of Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji. This location allows devotees to seek darshan and blessings from the holy relics. The event stands as a timeless tribute to the devotion and service of Guru Gobind Singh Ji Maharaj and Mata Sahib Kaur Ji, highlighting their enduring spiritual radiance. As the community continues to honor these sacred relics, the legacy of faith and devotion remains a vital part of the Sikh tradition.
