UNTCC Chiefs’ Conclave 2025 Ends in New Delhi with Commitment to Strengthen UN Peacekeeping
The UNTCC Chiefs’ Conclave 2025, organized by the Indian Army from October 14 to 16, has concluded with significant discussions aimed at enhancing United Nations peacekeeping operations. The event featured high-level interactions, including a meeting with India’s President Droupadi Murmu, who emphasized the importance of collaboration among nations. During the conclave, President Droupadi Murmu engaged with chiefs and representatives from various UN troop-contributing nations at Rashtrapati Bhawan. She praised the contributions of Indian peacekeepers and acknowledged the collective efforts of participating countries towards achieving sustainable peace. The President expressed her satisfaction with the collaborative spirit of the conclave, which aimed to develop effective frameworks for future peacekeeping missions. In his address, India’s External Affairs Minister, S. Jaishankar, stressed the need to adapt global peacekeeping strategies to current realities. He pointed out that the nature of conflicts has changed, particularly with the emergence of non-state actors and asymmetric warfare. Jaishankar called for a more inclusive decision-making process regarding peacekeeping mandates, emphasizing the importance of consultations with troop-contributing and host nations. He highlighted that while UN peacekeeping is vital for global stability, it must evolve to meet new challenges through realistic mandates, improved technology, and enhanced safety measures for peacekeepers.
Leveraging Technology for Enhanced Operations
An interactive session titled “Leveraging Technology in UN Peacekeeping” was a key feature of the conclave, bringing together military leaders and industry experts to discuss innovative solutions for operational effectiveness. The discussions focused on the potential of emerging technologies to improve situational awareness, logistics, and troop safety. This collaboration aimed to foster mutual benefits and share capabilities among nations, enhancing the overall effectiveness of peacekeeping missions. The conclave also included bilateral meetings between General Upendra Dwivedi, Chief of the Army Staff, and army chiefs from several countries, focusing on strengthening defense cooperation and interoperability.
Honoring Sacrifice and Commitment to Sustainability
As part of the conclave’s activities, participants paid tribute at the National War Memorial in New Delhi, honoring the sacrifices of Indian soldiers. This was followed by a tree plantation ceremony at the Manekshaw Centre, symbolizing a commitment to sustainability and a greener future. The planting of Ashoka saplings in the ‘Peacekeepers Grove’ aligned with the national initiative “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam,” reflecting a dedication to nurturing the bond between humanity and nature. The conclave concluded with a unanimous agreement on the need for inclusive decision-making, realistic mandates for peacekeeping, and sustained partnerships rooted in trust and cooperation, reinforcing the collective commitment to global peace and security.
