Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis and Officials Review IMW 2025 Preparations
The Union Minister of Ports, Shipping & Waterways, Sarbananda Sonowal, along with Maharashtra’s Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, convened a high-level meeting to review preparations for the upcoming India Maritime Week (IMW) 2025. Scheduled to take place at the Bombay Exhibition Centre, this significant event aims to position Mumbai as a global hub for maritime innovation and collaboration. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to attend and deliver the keynote address at the Global Maritime CEO Forum during the week-long event.
Review Meeting Highlights
The review meeting, held at Mantralaya in Mumbai, focused on various aspects of the IMW 2025, including venue readiness, security measures, logistics, and stakeholder coordination. Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal expressed optimism about the event’s potential to enhance India’s maritime sector. He emphasized the government’s commitment to transforming the ports and shipping ecosystem into a resilient and sustainable framework. The meeting also included senior officials from the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, who provided insights to ensure the event’s smooth execution.
Government’s Vision for Maritime Sector
During a press conference following the review meeting, Sonowal outlined the government’s strategic objectives for IMW 2025. He highlighted India’s ambition to strengthen global maritime partnerships and attract significant investments. The Union Minister stated that the government aims to invest ₹8 trillion in the maritime sector by 2047, creating approximately 1.5 crore jobs. He described the Maritime Amrit Kaal Vision as a pathway to prosperity, sustainability, and pride in India’s maritime heritage, aligning with Prime Minister Modi’s vision for a developed India by 2047.
Significant Participation and Global Engagement
IMW 2025 is expected to attract over 100,000 delegates and 500 exhibitors from more than 100 countries. Ministerial delegations from nations such as Singapore, the UAE, South Korea, Japan, and Denmark will participate, alongside key international organizations like the International Maritime Organization (IMO) and UNESCAP. Leading Indian states, including Maharashtra, Gujarat, Kerala, and Tamil Nadu, will also showcase their contributions to the maritime sector. Major industry players, such as Adani Ports and Logistics and Cochin Shipyard, are set to participate, further enhancing the event’s significance.
Focus on Innovation and Sustainability
India Maritime Week 2025 serves as a platform to showcase advancements in maritime technology, port development, and logistics. The summit aims to foster collaboration and drive innovation while strengthening international partnerships. The event is expected to reinforce India’s position in the global maritime ecosystem and support national priorities under the Maritime India Vision 2030 and the Amrit Kaal Maritime Vision 2047. With a focus on sustainability, the government aims for all 12 major ports to achieve carbon neutrality by 2047, reflecting a commitment to a technology-driven maritime future.
