Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal Highlights the Importance of Empowering Women for National Development

The Union Minister of Ports, Shipping & Waterways, Shri Sarbananda Sonowal, alongside Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sharma, recently launched the “Chief Minister Women Entrepreneurship Campaign” in Dibrugarh. This initiative aims to empower women by providing financial support, with over 14,000 women in the Dibrugarh Legislative Assembly Constituency receiving ₹10,000 each as seed capital. The campaign is part of a broader effort to foster women’s independence and contribute to national development.

Empowering Women for National Development

During the event, Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal emphasized the importance of empowering women as a cornerstone of national progress. He stated that the “Chief Minister Women Entrepreneurship Campaign” is designed to enable women across Assam, particularly in Dibrugarh, to contribute to a self-reliant India under Prime Minister Narendra Modi‘s leadership. Sonowal articulated that when women are financially empowered, it strengthens the entire nation. He highlighted the government’s commitment to this cause, noting that the central government has made significant strides over the past eleven years to support women’s empowerment through effective policies.

Commitment to Inclusive Growth

Sonowal further elaborated on the government’s vision, asserting that for India to be truly strong, every household must achieve financial independence. He praised the “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas” initiative, which aims for inclusive growth across all sectors of society. The Union Minister pointed out that India has emerged as the world’s fourth-largest economy and aims to be among the top three by 2029, with women’s empowerment being a key focus of this journey. He expressed confidence that the policies implemented by the government are yielding positive results, contributing to economic independence and social justice for all citizens.

Recognition of Local Efforts

In his address, Sonowal acknowledged the efforts of the Assam government under Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma. He commended the women who actively participated in the campaign and ensured its successful implementation. The Union Minister expressed gratitude for their responsible use of government support, stating that their contributions significantly strengthen society. He contrasted the current government’s achievements with those of previous administrations, asserting that under Prime Minister Modi’s leadership, citizens have made substantial progress toward economic independence.

The event was attended by several dignitaries, including Assam Government Minister and local MLA Prasant Phukan, Guardian Minister of Dibrugarh Jogen Mohan, and other ministers and MLAs. District Commissioner Bikram Kairi and Mayor of Dibrugarh Municipal Corporation, Saikat Patra, were also present. The gathering underscored the collaborative effort between the state and central governments to promote women’s entrepreneurship and empowerment in the region. The initiative marks a significant step towards achieving a more equitable society where women can play a vital role in the nation’s development.
