Glenn Maxwell Aims to Contribute to India Series After Undergoing Surgery for Quicker Recovery

Glenn Maxwell is on the path to recovery after undergoing wrist surgery, aiming to return for the latter part of Australia’s T20I series against India. The all-rounder had his cast removed recently, following a fracture sustained during practice. Although he will miss the first two matches of the series, Maxwell is hopeful about participating in the final three games scheduled for early November. His surgery was intended to expedite his recovery, allowing him to be fit for the series and the upcoming Big Bash League (BBL).

Maxwell’s Recovery Journey

After having his cast replaced with a molded plastic splint, Glenn Maxwell has begun basic mobility exercises to aid his recovery. He recently met with a hand therapist who provided him with fundamental movement exercises aimed at strengthening his wrist. Maxwell expressed optimism about his recovery, stating that the surgery has given him a better chance of playing in the T20 series against India. He noted that the decision to undergo surgery was made to avoid missing the series entirely. “If I can get myself right, I think I have a slim chance to hopefully play a part,” he said.

The injury adds to Maxwell’s history of unusual incidents, including a broken leg from a birthday party and a concussion from a golf cart accident. He has reflected on his approach to bowling in practice, particularly against powerful hitters. “I try to avoid bowling to those guys,” he admitted, acknowledging the risks involved. As he prepares for the BBL, Maxwell plans to adjust his bowling strategy to minimize the chances of further injury.

Recent Performances and Future Plans

Maxwell’s last T20I appearance showcased his impressive form, where he scored an unbeaten 62 runs off 36 balls against South Africa in August. He also demonstrated his batting skills in a domestic One-Day Cup match, scoring 107 runs off 82 balls for Victoria. When asked about his long-term career plans, including the possibility of participating in the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, Maxwell emphasized his focus on the immediate future. “I’m literally thinking about round one of the BBL at the moment,” he stated, indicating that his current priority is to return to competitive cricket.

Excitement for BBL and New Additions

Maxwell expressed enthusiasm about R Ashwin’s participation in the upcoming BBL season, highlighting the significance of having world-class players in the league. He believes Ashwin’s experience and success will greatly benefit the competition and the players involved. “It’s great for the competition,” Maxwell remarked, noting that Ashwin’s presence will attract fans and provide valuable insights to younger players. As Maxwell continues his recovery, he remains committed to making a strong comeback and contributing to his team’s success in the upcoming matches.
