Industry Conclave on Skilling & Employment under PM VIKAS Held by Ministry of Minority Affairs in New Delhi

The Ministry of Minority Affairs, in collaboration with the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC) and the State Institute of Hotel Management (SIHM) in Tripura, hosted an Industry Conclave focused on skilling for a developed India by 2047. The event took place in New Delhi and was graced by Union Minister of State for Minority Affairs, Shri George Kurian. He highlighted the significance of automation and emerging technologies in shaping a skilled workforce, emphasizing the need for industry collaboration to achieve the goals of Atmanirbhar Bharat and Viksit Bharat.

Key Highlights of the Conclave

During the conclave, two significant Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) were signed. The first MoU was between the Ministry of Minority Affairs, DSGMC, and the Wadhwani Foundation, while the second was between DSGMC and SIHM Tripura. These agreements aim to enhance partnerships between industry and training institutions, aligning with the objectives of the Pradhan Mantri Virasat Ka Samvardhan (PM VIKAS) scheme. This initiative is designed to provide comprehensive skilling opportunities that meet modern industry demands while leveraging India’s traditional strengths.

The conclave attracted representatives from eleven sectors, including healthcare, aviation, electronics, tourism, and hospitality. This diverse participation underscores the importance of a collaborative approach to skilling, which is essential for preparing a workforce that can compete on a global scale.

Panel Discussion on Workforce Development

A panel discussion titled “Building an Industry-Ready and Globally Mobile Workforce: Leveraging Government Schemes for Inclusive Growth and Viksit Bharat 2047” was a key feature of the event. The session included prominent figures such as Shri C.P.S. Bakshi, Joint Secretary (Skills), and other industry leaders. They discussed the need to align skilling initiatives with market realities, expand apprenticeship opportunities, and enhance the global employability of Indian youth.

The panelists emphasized that industry collaboration is vital for the success of skilling programs. They urged employers to actively participate in curriculum development, provide apprenticeship and job placement opportunities, and support the integration of emerging technologies. The discussion highlighted that the effectiveness of skilling should be measured by the real-world impact on livelihoods and job satisfaction, rather than just numerical targets.

PM VIKAS Scheme and Its Impact

The PM VIKAS scheme is a flagship initiative of the Ministry of Minority Affairs, aimed at providing holistic skilling opportunities. It combines the needs of modern industries with India’s rich traditional skills. The scheme promotes transparency, efficiency, and relevance to industry standards. To date, 41 projects have been initiated across 30 states and union territories, benefiting over 134,000 youth and artisans.

The conclave served as a platform to reinforce the commitment to skilling and empowerment of minority communities. As India progresses towards its vision of Viksit Bharat by 2047, the collaboration between government, industry, and educational institutions will be crucial in creating a workforce that is not only skilled but also adaptable to the changing global landscape.
