WaveX Launches Seven New Incubation Centers for Media, Entertainment, and AVGC-XR Sector

WaveX, the startup accelerator initiative under the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, has unveiled plans to establish seven new incubation centers across India. This expansion complements the existing facility at the Indian Institute of Creative Technologies (IICT) in Mumbai. This initiative is a significant step as it introduces a dedicated accelerator and incubator program tailored specifically for startups in the Animation, Visual Effects, Gaming, Comics (AVGC), and Extended Reality (XR) sectors.

New Incubation Centers Across India

The newly launched incubation centers will be set up at various prestigious institutions, including the Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC) in Delhi, Jammu, Dhenkanal (Odisha), Kottayam (Kerala), and Amravati (Maharashtra), as well as the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) in Pune and the Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute (SRFTI) in Kolkata. These centers aim to provide startups with access to advanced facilities that support film production, game development, editing, and testing. The flagship IICT Incubator in Mumbai is equipped with state-of-the-art technology, including an 8K Red Raptor Vista Vision camera, a 4K HDR preview theatre with Dolby Atmos, and high-performance workstations, among other resources.

Startups will benefit from these facilities, enabling them to create, develop, and validate content in film, gaming, and immersive media that meets global standards. Additionally, WaveX will facilitate access to these resources both on-site and through digital platforms, enhancing the reach and capabilities of participating startups.

Comprehensive Support and Resources

The selected startups will receive extensive support, including access to incubation facilities, industry connections, and funding opportunities. The new centers will mirror the infrastructure and mentorship provided at the IICT in Mumbai, ensuring that all participating startups receive high-quality support. Each incubation center will offer co-working spaces, AV/Digital labs, and studios equipped with modern production facilities.

Moreover, startups will have access to high-speed internet, cloud services, and sandbox testing opportunities in various fields such as OTT, VFX, VR, and gaming. They will also benefit from structured mentorship and advisory support from industry experts, along with masterclasses and investor connect sessions. Partnerships with established incubators and institutions like IITs and T-Hub are also being developed to broaden the learning opportunities and innovation ecosystems available to these startups.

Application Process and Eligibility

Applications for the first cohort are currently open, inviting startups to apply through the WaveX website. Each incubation center will select 15 startups for its inaugural batch. The monthly fee for participation is set at โ‚น8,500 plus GST. Startups operating in the Media-Entertainment and AVGC-XR sectors will be given preference during the selection process.

WaveX aims to create a robust ecosystem that supports disruptive media innovations. By focusing on nurturing early-stage ventures based on their potential rather than just existing products, WaveX distinguishes itself from traditional incubators. The initiative is designed to empower the next generation of entrepreneurs in gaming, OTT, AI-driven content creation, and immersive technologies by providing them with essential resources, mentorship, and funding access.
