Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs Launches Angikaar 2025

Shri Manohar Lal, the Honโble Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs, officially launched the โAngikaar 2025โ campaign in New Delhi on September 4, 2025. This initiative aims to enhance the outreach of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana – Urban 2.0 (PMAY-U 2.0). The event was attended by key officials, including Shri Tokhan Sahu, the Minister of State for Housing and Urban Affairs, and Shri Srinivas Katikithala, Secretary of the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs. Angikaar 2025 is set to create awareness about the housing scheme and expedite the verification of applications and the completion of sanctioned houses.
Objectives of Angikaar 2025
Angikaar 2025 is designed to accelerate the implementation of PMAY-U 2.0 by raising awareness about the scheme nationwide. One of its primary goals is to facilitate the verification process for applicants and ensure the swift completion of houses already sanctioned under PMAY-U. The campaign also aims to inform stakeholders about the Credit Risk Guarantee Fund Trust for Low Income Housing (CRGFTLIH) scheme, which is crucial for supporting low-income housing initiatives. By focusing on community mobilization and targeted engagement, Angikaar 2025 seeks to deliver comprehensive development outcomes and enhance the effectiveness of other Government of India schemes. Additionally, beneficiaries of PMAY-U will receive benefits from the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana, ensuring that the housing needs of vulnerable groups are prioritized.
Progress Under PMAY-U
Since its inception, the PMAY-U scheme has sanctioned 120 lakh houses, with 94.11 lakh pucca houses already completed and handed over to beneficiaries. Angikaar 2025 is expected to facilitate the completion of the remaining houses, aligning with the governmentโs vision of โHousing for Allโ. The scheme was revamped and relaunched as PMAY-U 2.0 in September 2024, with plans to provide financial support of up to โน2.50 lakh to an additional one crore families in urban areas for constructing or purchasing pucca houses. This initiative underscores the government’s commitment to addressing housing shortages and improving living conditions for urban residents.
Campaign Duration and Activities
The Angikaar 2025 campaign will run for two months, from September 4 to October 31, 2025, across more than 5,000 Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) in India. The campaign will employ various outreach methods, including door-to-door awareness initiatives, camps, loan melas, and cultural events, to engage potential beneficiaries and stakeholders actively. These activities are designed to foster community participation in the Jan Bhagidari movement, which emphasizes public involvement in government schemes. Following the launch, a meeting chaired by Shri Kuldip Narayan, Joint Secretary & Mission Director of Housing for All, was held with State and Union Territory officials to discuss effective strategies for implementing the campaign.
Key Events and Engagements
As part of Angikaar 2025, the PMAY-U Awas Diwas will be celebrated on September 17, 2025, marking the first anniversary of PMAY-U 2.0. An anchor event, the โPM Awas Mela โ Shehri,โ will take place at District Headquarters, with larger cities hosting events at the Municipal Corporation level. This flagship event will occur in two phases: the first from September 17 to September 27, 2025, and the second between October 16 and October 31, 2025. The PM Awas Mela will serve as a vibrant platform to showcase the benefits of PMAY-U and promote community outreach at the grassroots level. In addition to the main event, ULBs will conduct various activities at the ward, cluster, and city levels to maintain momentum for the Angikaar 2025 campaign.
