President of India Awards SCOPE Eminence Awards to Public Sector Enterprises

President Droupadi Murmu awarded the SCOPE Eminence Awards in New Delhi today, recognizing the vital contributions of public sector enterprises (PSEs) to India’s development. The ceremony, organized by the Standing Conference of Public Enterprises (SCOPE) with support from the Department of Public Enterprises (DPE) and the Ministry of Finance, was attended by key government officials and leaders from various PSEs. The President emphasized the importance of PSEs in achieving national goals and praised their performance across multiple dimensions, including social responsibility and innovation.
Celebrating Public Sector Contributions
During the award ceremony, President Murmu highlighted the significant role that public sector enterprises play in India’s growth and development. She stated that the SCOPE Eminence Awards serve to honor the exemplary performance of these enterprises in various sectors. The President commended the leaders of PSEs for their achievements in social, economic, environmental, technological, and ethical domains. She noted that the awards recognize efforts in areas such as women empowerment, sustainable development, corporate governance, and corporate social responsibility. This celebration underscores the commitment of PSEs to contribute positively to society and the economy.
Public Sector as a Catalyst for Development
In her address, President Murmu described the public sector as a powerful vehicle for economic development and social inclusion. She expressed confidence that Central Public Sector Enterprises (CPSEs) will play a crucial role in realizing India’s vision of becoming a developed nation by 2047. The President also acknowledged the effective participation of CPSEs in initiatives like Aatmanirbhar Bharat and the ‘Make in India’ campaign. She cited the successful demonstration of the indigenous Air Defence Control and Reporting System, Akashteer, during Operation Sindoor, as an example of the capabilities of Indian public sector enterprises.
Insights from Government Officials
Shri Pankaj Chaudhary, Union Minister of State for Finance, addressed the audience, reflecting on the journey of public sector enterprises since their inception. He emphasized their strategic role in nation-building and noted that even during challenging times, PSEs have maintained consistent performance and growth. Shri K. Moses Chalai, Secretary of DPE, echoed this sentiment, stating that CPSEs have been instrumental in fostering socio-economic development while providing direct employment to around 1.5 million people and supporting millions more indirectly.
Commitment to Sustainable Development
Shri K. P. Mahadevaswamy, Chairman of SCOPE, reiterated the importance of CPSEs in facilitating sustainable development and maintaining a high trust index among the public. He highlighted SCOPE’s role in building capacities and aligning with global excellence goals. In his welcome address, Shri Atul Sobti, Director General of SCOPE, emphasized that public sector enterprises have evolved into competitive contributors to India’s socio-economic growth. He called for continued efforts to strengthen the public sector’s role in creating a self-reliant and equitable India.
