Bihar SIR: 94.68% of Electors Covered with 7 Days Remaining

EROs are set to unveil the draft Electoral Roll on August 1, 2025, inviting public and political party feedback for corrections. This initiative, mandated by a recent SIR order, allows a month for stakeholders to suggest amendments or include names that may have been overlooked. Both printed and digital versions of the draft will be accessible to recognized political parties at no cost, and the public can view it on the ECI website, ensuring that all eligible voters are accounted for.
Electoral Roll Details
As of June 24, 2025, the total number of registered electors stands at 789,69,844. The enumeration process has seen a significant response, with 711,72,660 forms received, reflecting a participation rate of 90.12%. Furthermore, 685,34,743 of these forms have been digitized, which accounts for 86.79% of the total. This digitization is crucial for streamlining the electoral process and ensuring accurate record-keeping.
However, there are still challenges to address. Approximately 36,86,971 electors have not been located at their registered addresses, representing 4.67% of the total. This includes individuals who may be deceased, have permanently moved, or are enrolled at multiple locations. The Election Commission is actively working to resolve these discrepancies to ensure the integrity of the electoral process.
Efforts to Verify Elector Status
To enhance the accuracy of the electoral roll, the Election Commission is sharing lists of potentially deceased, permanently shifted, or multiple-enrolled electors with District Presidents of political parties and over 1.5 lakh Booth Level Agents (BLAs). These agents are tasked with verifying the status of each elector by July 25, 2025. Each BLA can submit up to 50 verified forms daily, which will help in updating the electoral records efficiently.
This initiative underscores the Election Commission’s commitment to ensuring that no eligible voter is excluded from the electoral process. By engaging local agents and political parties, the Commission aims to gather accurate information and rectify any discrepancies in the electoral roll.
Finalization of the Electoral Roll
Following the collection of feedback and the resolution of claims and objections, the Final Electoral Roll is scheduled for publication on September 30, 2025. Recognized political parties will again receive free printed and digital copies of the final roll, which will also be made available on the ECI website. Voters who feel aggrieved by any decisions made by the Electoral Registration Officers (EROs) will have the option to appeal to the District Magistrate and the Chief Electoral Officer, as stipulated under Section 24 of the Representation of the People Act, 1950.
