India and Argentina Conduct Second Joint Working Group Meeting on Agricultural Cooperation
The second Joint Working Group (JWG) meeting on Agriculture between India and Argentina took place yesterday, with key officials participating virtually and in person. Co-chaired by Shri Devesh Chaturvedi from India and Mr. Sergio Iraeta from Argentina, the meeting aimed to strengthen bilateral cooperation in agriculture and related sectors. Both nations recognized the importance of collaboration in areas such as agricultural mechanization, pest control, and climate-resilient practices.
Strengthening Bilateral Ties
During the meeting, Shri Devesh Chaturvedi emphasized Argentina’s significance as a partner for India. He noted that the collaboration between the two countries is built on a foundation of shared knowledge and technology. Chaturvedi pointed out that there are numerous opportunities for cooperation, particularly in agricultural mechanization and pest management. Mr. Sergio Iraeta, co-chair from Argentina, reiterated his country’s dedication to deepening its partnership with India. Shri Muktanand Agrawal, Joint Secretary of Plant Protection at the Department of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare, provided insights into India’s agricultural landscape. These initiatives focus on digital solutions, climate-resilient practices, and risk mitigation strategies to support farmers. The meeting also addressed several critical issues related to agricultural cooperation. Participants discussed topics such as horticulture, oilseed and pulses cultivation, precision agriculture, and carbon credit initiatives for farmers. Other important subjects included biopesticide development, locust control, and new breeding technologies. Senior officials from various Indian agricultural departments, including the Indian Council of Agricultural Research and the Ministry of External Affairs, attended the meeting, reflecting the collaborative spirit and commitment to advancing agricultural practices between India and Argentina.
