All India Institute of Ayurveda to Host Three-Day National Seminar ‘Shalyacon’

The All-India Institute of Ayurveda (AIIA) in New Delhi is set to host Shalyacon 2025, a significant three-day national seminar scheduled from July 13 to 15, 2025. This event coincides with Sushruta Jayanti, a day dedicated to celebrating the contributions of Acharya Sushruta, often hailed as the Father of Surgery. The seminar aims to merge traditional Ayurvedic practices with modern surgical techniques, drawing participation from over 500 experts in the field.

Event Overview and Leadership

Shalyacon 2025 is organized by the Department of Shalya Tantra at AIIA, under the guidance of Prof. (Dr.) Yogesh Badwe. This prestigious seminar is being held in collaboration with the National Sushruta Association as part of the 25th Annual Conference of the association. The event will kick off with an inaugural ceremony on July 14, 2025, featuring Shri Prataprao Ganpatrao Jadhav, the Minister of State (Independent Charge), as the Chief Guest. Notable Guests of Honour include Vaidya Rajesh Kotecha, Secretary of the Ministry of Ayush; Prof. Sanjeev Sharma, Vice Chancellor of the National Institute of Ayurveda in Jaipur; and Prof. (Dr.) Tanuja Nesari, Director of the Institute of Teaching & Research in Ayurveda in Jamnagar.

Prof. (Dr.) Manjusha Rajagopala, the Director (I/C) of AIIA, emphasized the institute’s commitment to promoting Ayurveda globally. She noted that Shalyacon reflects this dedication by integrating Ayurvedic principles with contemporary surgical advancements. The seminar aims to empower emerging Ayurvedic surgeons with the skills and confidence necessary for integrated surgical care.

Live Surgical Demonstrations

The seminar will feature live surgical demonstrations on July 13 and 14, showcasing various procedures, including general surgeries, anorectal surgeries, and urosurgical cases. On the first day, ten general endoscopic laparoscopic surgeries will be performed, providing participants with firsthand experience of these techniques. The second day will focus on anorectal surgeries, with sixteen live procedures scheduled. This hands-on approach allows attendees to observe and learn from real-time surgical practices, enhancing their understanding of both traditional and modern methods.

The theme of Shalyacon 2025โ€”Innovation, Integration, and Inspirationโ€”highlights the event’s goal of bridging the gap between traditional Ayurvedic practices and modern surgical techniques. This dynamic confluence is expected to attract a diverse group of over 500 scholars, surgeons, researchers, and academicians from India and around the world.

Academic Sessions and Presentations

In addition to the live demonstrations, Shalyacon 2025 will host a series of plenary sessions covering a wide range of topics, including General and Laparoscopic Surgery, Wound Management, Anorectal Surgery, and Innovations in Surgery. The final day will feature over 200 oral and poster presentations, fostering scholarly dialogue and academic enrichment among participants.

These sessions will provide a platform for scholars, clinicians, and researchers to share their work and engage in meaningful discussions about advancements in Ayurvedic surgical practices. The event will also include a cultural program, enriching the experience for attendees and promoting a sense of community among those involved in the field.
