Elon Musk’s xAI Unveils Grok 4 AI Model

Grok 4, the latest artificial intelligence model from xAI, was unveiled by Elon Musk and his team during a live stream on X (formerly Twitter) on Monday. This new large language model (LLM) boasts enhanced reasoning capabilities and improved performance across various subjects. Alongside Grok 4, xAI introduced Grok Heavy, a multi-agent system designed to collaborate on complex problems, and announced the launch of its most expensive AI subscription to date.
Grok 4’s Enhanced Capabilities
During the live stream, Musk and the xAI team highlighted Grok 4’s superior academic knowledge, claiming it surpasses a PhD level in every subject. This assertion underscores the model’s advanced reasoning abilities, which are crucial for tackling complex queries. The team also presented Grok 4’s performance on several benchmarks, including the Humanity’s Last Exam, a rigorous test comprising 2,500 questions across diverse topics. Grok 4 achieved a score of 25.4 percent, outperforming notable competitors such as Google’s Gemini 2.5 Pro, which scored 21.6 percent, and OpenAI’s o3-high, which managed 21 percent.
Musk further revealed that Grok Heavy, a complementary system designed to utilize tools, scored an impressive 44.4 percent on the same benchmark. This score eclipsed OpenAI’s o3 with Deep Research, which scored 26 percent, and Gemini 2.5 Pro with tools, which achieved 26.9 percent. These results position Grok 4 as a formidable player in the AI landscape, showcasing its potential to revolutionize academic and practical applications.
Introducing Grok Heavy
Grok Heavy was introduced as a multi-agent environment where specialized agents collaborate to solve problems. While details about this system remain limited, it is designed to generate higher quality outputs by allowing agents to compare various solutions and select the most effective one. This approach is reminiscent of an open-source algorithm released by Sakana AI earlier this month, indicating a trend towards collaborative AI systems that leverage the strengths of multiple agents.
The introduction of Grok Heavy signifies xAI’s commitment to advancing AI capabilities through innovative collaboration. By enabling agents to work together, the system aims to enhance problem-solving efficiency and effectiveness, potentially setting a new standard in the AI industry.
SuperGrok Heavy Subscription Launch
In addition to the new AI models, xAI announced the launch of SuperGrok Heavy, its most expensive consumer-focused AI subscription to date. Priced at $300 per month (approximately Rs. 25,700), this subscription is tailored for power users of Grok. It offers enhanced rate limits and early access to new features, including Grok Heavy.
The introduction of SuperGrok Heavy reflects xAI’s strategy to cater to a growing market of advanced AI users seeking premium services. By providing exclusive access to cutting-edge features, xAI aims to attract a dedicated user base willing to invest in the latest AI advancements. This move could significantly impact the competitive landscape of AI subscriptions, as companies vie for the attention of tech-savvy consumers eager for the best tools available.
