First Joint Working Group Meeting on Agriculture Between India and Ukraine Conducted

The inaugural Joint Working Group (JWG) meeting on Agriculture between India and Ukraine took place today via a virtual platform. Co-chaired by Shri Ajeet Kumar Sahu, Joint Secretary of the Department of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare, and Ms. Oksana Osmachko, Deputy Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine, the meeting aimed to bolster bilateral cooperation in agriculture and related sectors. Officials from both nations underscored the significance of this meeting as a pivotal step towards enhancing agricultural collaboration.
India’s Agricultural Achievements Highlighted
During the meeting, Shri Ajeet Kumar Sahu presented an overview of India’s agricultural landscape, showcasing the country’s significant achievements in the sector. He discussed various innovative initiatives implemented by the Indian government to enhance agricultural productivity. These initiatives include the adoption of digital solutions, promotion of climate-resilient agricultural practices, and risk mitigation strategies. Sahu also mentioned key programs such as the National Mission on Edible Oils Oilseeds, the National Food Security Mission for Pulses, and the e-NAM platform, all designed to stimulate growth in agriculture and support rural development. His remarks emphasized India’s commitment to advancing its agricultural capabilities through modern techniques and sustainable practices.
Ukraine’s Commitment to Strengthening Ties
Ms. Oksana Osmachko expressed Ukraine’s dedication to reinforcing its partnership with India. She highlighted Ukraine’s keen interest in expanding cooperation in several critical areas, including food processing, agricultural mechanization, digital agriculture, genome editing, and plant breeding technologies. Osmachko noted that both countries possess rich agricultural expertise, which could be leveraged to enhance productivity and improve the welfare of farmers. Her statements reflected a strong desire for collaboration that could lead to mutual benefits in agricultural advancement.
Discussion on Key Agricultural Issues
The meeting also served as a platform for discussing various key issues related to agricultural cooperation. Participation of Senior Officials
The virtual meeting was attended by senior officials from various Indian agricultural departments, including the Department of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare, the Indian Council of Agricultural Research, and the Ministry of Food Processing Industries. Representatives from the Department of Fisheries, the Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying, and the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) were also present. Their participation underscored the comprehensive nature of the discussions and the commitment of both countries to work together in enhancing agricultural practices and policies.
