WhatsApp Launches on iPad with Stage Manager Support

WhatsApp has officially launched its long-awaited app for iPad, marking a significant milestone after years of development and beta testing. This new version offers full-screen support, allowing users to send messages and make voice and video calls seamlessly. The app is designed to leverage the iPad’s multitasking features, including Stage Manager and Split View, enhancing the overall user experience for those who rely on Apple’s tablet for communication.

Key Features of WhatsApp for iPad

Meta, the parent company of WhatsApp, highlighted that the introduction of the iPad app was one of the most requested features from users. The app allows up to 32 participants to join in voice and video calls, making it easier for groups to connect. Users can also share their screens and utilize both the front and rear cameras on the iPad, enhancing the versatility of the app.

While the iPad version shares many features with its Android and iOS counterparts, it introduces a unique full-screen view tailored for the tablet. The chat list occupies the left half of the screen, while the chat window is displayed on the right, providing a more organized and user-friendly interface. This design change aims to improve navigation and accessibility for users.

Multitasking Capabilities

WhatsApp for iPad takes full advantage of the device’s multitasking capabilities. It supports Stage Manager, which prioritizes the app currently in use, minimizing clutter on the screen. Recently used apps are conveniently arranged on the left side for quick access. Additionally, the app supports Split View, allowing users to run two applications side by side. This feature enables users to view WhatsApp alongside other apps, enhancing productivity.

Moreover, users can utilize a floating window to access WhatsApp while engaging with other applications. The app is also compatible with peripherals like the Magic Keyboard and Apple Pencil, further enriching the user experience on the iPad.

Privacy and Security Features

WhatsApp for iPad employs multi-device technology to ensure that chats and media remain synchronized across various devices, including iPhones and Macs. The app maintains the same level of end-to-end encryption that users expect, ensuring that messages remain private and secure. This means that no one, including Meta, can access the content of users’ conversations.

To enhance privacy further, WhatsApp has introduced a chat lock feature that allows users to secure their chats with Face ID or a PIN. This added layer of security is particularly beneficial for users who prioritize confidentiality in their communications. With these features, WhatsApp aims to provide a safe and reliable messaging experience for iPad users.
