Dhadak 2 Sets Release Date Following CBFC Approval, Says Siddhant

A day after celebrating his 53rd birthday, renowned filmmaker Karan Johar announced the release date for his upcoming production, Dhadak 2. The film, featuring Siddhant Chaturvedi and Tripti Dimri in lead roles, is set to premiere in theaters on August 1, 2025. Along with the announcement, two emotionally charged posters were revealed, hinting at the film’s intense narrative and thematic depth.

Emotional Posters Reveal Intense Themes

The recently unveiled posters for *Dhadak 2* showcase Siddhant Chaturvedi and Tripti Dimri in a poignant embrace, framed by a moody blue backdrop. The tagline, โ€œMarne aur ladne mein se ek ko chunna hoโ€ฆ to ladna,โ€ translates to โ€œIf you have to choose between dying and fightingโ€ฆ choose to fight,โ€ suggesting a narrative rich in themes of resistance and resilience. This marks a significant tonal shift from the original *Dhadak*, which was more focused on romance. The raw emotion captured in the visuals indicates that the sequel will delve into deeper, more complex issues, setting the stage for a compelling cinematic experience.

CBFC Challenges Overcome

Earlier this year, *Dhadak 2* faced hurdles at the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) due to its sensitive subject matter, which addresses caste oppression. Initially, the film was stalled because of its content, but it has now received a U/A 16+ rating after undergoing substantial edits. Reports indicate that several dialogues were revised to remove references to caste history and discrimination. Notably, phrases like โ€œ3,000 years of backlogโ€ and caste-specific slurs were either altered or muted. Additionally, a scene depicting public urination was entirely cut, and a sequence showing the humiliation of a characterโ€™s father was shortened. The CBFC also mandated a revised disclaimer, which now lasts 1 minute and 51 seconds and must be read aloud during the film.

Film Background and Runtime

*Dhadak 2* is a Hindi adaptation of the acclaimed 2018 Tamil film *Pariyerum Perumal*, directed by Mari Selvaraj. This remake is helmed by Shazia Iqbal, marking her directorial debut. With a runtime of 2 hours and 26 minutes, the film aims to spotlight caste-based social injustices, diverging from the romantic themes of its predecessor, *Dhadak* (2018). The production is a collaboration between Dharma Productions, Zee Studios, and Cloud 9 Pictures, promising a thought-provoking narrative that resonates with contemporary social issues.
