NADA India Hosts WADA’s Global Anti-Doping Intelligence and Investigations

National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA) India, in collaboration with the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, successfully hosted the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) Intelligence & Investigations Workshop from May 12 to 16, 2025, in New Delhi. This significant event, organized with the support of INTERPOL and Sport Integrity Australia, attracted representatives from various National Anti-Doping Organizations (NADOs) and law enforcement agencies across South Asia, including India, Indonesia, Maldives, Sri Lanka, and the Philippines. The workshop aimed to enhance global cooperation and strengthen the anti-doping framework.

Workshop Overview and Objectives

The five-day workshop featured a series of comprehensive sessions focused on critical areas such as intelligence functions, investigative techniques, and the management of confidential sources. Participants also engaged in open-source research, analytical methods, and interviewing techniques. These sessions emphasized the necessity of a proactive and coordinated approach to protect athletes and maintain the integrity of sports. By bringing together experts in intelligence and investigations, the workshop aimed to foster collaboration and share best practices among nations.

Key Contributions and Statements

Shri Anant Kumar, the Director General of NADA India, expressed pride in hosting the workshop, highlighting the valuable knowledge and connections formed during the event. He noted that the insights gained would significantly contribute to building intelligence and investigative capabilities in the region. Meanwhile, Mr. Gรผnter Younger, WADA’s Director of Intelligence and Investigations, acknowledged the progress made in Asia and Oceania. He emphasized that the workshop would have a lasting impact on the protection of clean sport globally.

Future Initiatives and Continuing Efforts

This workshop is part of a broader Capability and Capacity Building Project aimed at enhancing WADAโ€™s Global Anti-Doping Intelligence and Investigations Network (GAIIN). The initiative seeks to improve international collaboration and the overall effectiveness of anti-doping efforts worldwide. Following the success of this workshop, a second event is already planned for July 2025 in India, indicating a continued commitment to strengthening anti-doping measures in the region.
