Lakshmi sits on a bench, her hands shaking as she stares at the ground. Shalu walks over and sits beside her. “Why won’t you tell Rishi about your baby?” Shalu asks. Lakshmi lifts her head. “I can’t,” she whispers. “Not while Malishka is pretending to be the perfect wife. She and Balwinder have been lying to everyone!” Shalu frowns. “But your secret is your truth. Why wait?” Lakshmi’s voice cracks. “Because I need to show everyone Malishka’s lies first. I just… don’t have proof yet.” She buries her face in her hands. Shalu pats her back. Nearby, Anushka hides behind a door, her ears wide open. She smirks and tiptoes away. Neelam claps her hands in the main hall. “Welcome, everyone! Today, we bless my son’s wife, Malishka, and her unborn child!” Guests cheer as Malishka stands, pretending to blush. Rishi lingers near the door, his eyes scanning the crowd. He slips outside and heads to the kitchen, where Lakshmi stands alone. “Please, act normal today,” Rishi says. “For my mom’s sake.” Lakshmi whirls around. “Normal? How can I act normal when you’re standing next to a liar?!” Her voice cracks. Rishi steps back, stunned. “I… I just want peace.” Lakshmi pushes past him. Shalu grabs Lakshmi’s arm. “Breathe. Don’t let them win.” They return to the hall. Lakshmi spots Mukesh and calls out, “The stairs are dirty. Can you mop them?” Anushka freezes. Oh no , she thinks. I poured oil there earlier .

In the hall, Neelam waves a tray of sweets. “Let’s start the rituals!” she announces. Lakshmi wanders to the staircase, clutching a broom. Anushka watches, biting her lip. “Be careful,” she mutters. Malishka suddenly clutches her stomach. “I feel dizzy,” she moans. Lakshmi, nearby, says, “You should rest upstairs.” Malishka nods and takes a shaky step. Her foot slips on the oily stairs. “Ahh!” she screams, tumbling backward. Kiran lunges to catch her. “You did this!” he roars at Lakshmi. “You wanted to hurt my niece’s baby!” Guests gasp. Malishka sobs dramatically. “Why would you do this?” Lakshmi stumbles back. “I—I didn’t!” Rishi rushes over. “What’s going on?” Kiran points at Lakshmi. “She tried to kill them!” Lakshmi’s eyes fill with tears. “It wasn’t me!” Rishi looks between them, his face pale.
Scene 4: Trapped in a Web of Blame
Neelam storms over. “Explain this mess!” she demands. Lakshmi opens her mouth, but Anushka blurts out, “Mukesh was supposed to clean the stairs!” All eyes turn to Mukesh, who shakes his head. “I never touched them!” Malishka sniffles. “I knew Lakshmi hated me, but this…?” Lakshmi clenches her fists. “You’re the liar here!” she shouts. “Ask Balwinder about your ‘pregnancy’!” The hall falls silent. Balwinder stiffens. “What’s she talking about?” Neelam glares at him. Malishka grabs his arm. “Ignore her. She’s just jealous.” But doubt flickers in Neelam’s eyes. Rishi pulls Lakshmi aside. “Tell me the truth. Are you… pregnant?” Lakshmi nods. “Yes. But I couldn’t say anything until—” She stops. “Wait. Why would I explain myself to you?” She walks away, leaving Rishi staring after her.
