Airtel Services Restored After Brief Outage

Airtel experienced a significant service outage on Tuesday evening, affecting users across various regions in India. The disruption began around 7:00 PM IST and lasted until approximately 11:35 PM IST, with many customers voicing their frustrations on social media. Reports indicated that users in Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and New Delhi were particularly impacted, facing issues with network connectivity and internet services.
Airtel Outage Details
The outage was tracked by Downdetector, which recorded over 8,400 reports from users experiencing service disruptions. A majority of these complaintsโ65 percentโwere related to a lack of signal, while 15 percent reported problems with internet connectivity. The spike in complaints began shortly after the outage commenced, with more than 1,400 reports logged by 7:00 PM. The peak of the outage occurred around 9:05 PM, when the number of reports surged to over 8,400. By 1:05 AM on Wednesday, the service was reportedly restored.
Affected cities included Chennai, Coimbatore, Dindigul, and Thrissur, as well as areas in Hyderabad and Kerala. Users in New Delhi also reported similar issues. During the outage, many customers found themselves unable to make phone calls due to the lack of network signal. However, some users in the same regions were still able to access mobile data and internet services, according to reports.
Airtel’s Response to the Outage
In response to the widespread complaints, Airtel acknowledged the outage through a message sent to users. The text stated, โLast evening, we encountered a network outage in few areas of Tamil Nadu and Kerala. Our team worked diligently overnight to resolve the issue. Our services have been fully restored. We apologise for any inconvenience this may have caused and thank you for your patience and understanding during this time.โ This message aimed to reassure customers that the issue was being addressed.
Despite the company’s efforts to communicate, many users took to social media platforms like X (formerly Twitter) to express their dissatisfaction. One user from Kerala lamented, โI have a valid pack until June 22nd 2025. But I can’t able to make calls and use mobile data since yesterday!! What kind of service you guys are providing!โ Another user echoed similar frustrations, stating, โWhat’s going on with Airtel? No mobile signal, can’t make calls, and even my Airtel Fiber isn’t working.โ
User Reactions and Impact
The outage prompted a wave of reactions from users who felt the impact of the service disruption. Many expressed their frustration over the inability to make calls or access the internet, which is particularly concerning for those who rely on mobile services for work or personal communication. The situation highlighted the challenges faced by telecom companies in maintaining consistent service, especially during peak usage times.
As users shared their experiences online, the outage became a trending topic, drawing attention to the reliability of Airtel’s services. The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of robust network infrastructure and effective communication during service disruptions. While the company has since restored services, the incident may lead to increased scrutiny from customers regarding Airtel’s service reliability in the future.
