Scene 1: Stars, Stories, and Sticky Promises
Neil stops Sai on a quiet road, his voice firm but kind. “You’re clever, but why wander alone? It’s not safe.” Sai kicks a pebble, her eyes on the ground. “I wanted to see Dad. He’s a star now,” she mumbles. “But he’s far away, and I hate it.” Neil’s shoulders slump. “My wife became a star too. I miss her every day.” Sai tilts her head. “Why can’t you be with her?” He sighs, staring at the sky. “Stars can’t come back. If we join them, our families hurt. We must stay here, right?” Sai nods, wiping her nose. “But I still miss Dad.” Without a word, Neil wraps his arms around her. Sai sniffs, then giggles as he wipes her tears with his sleeve. “Promise me you’ll stay safe until you’re grown,” Neil says, holding her hands. Sai crosses her heart. “I’ll smile at stars when I miss Dad!” Neil grins. “Hungry?” Sai pulls out a crumpled packet of biscuits. They sit on the curb, crunching loudly, their shadows stretching long in the fading light.
Scene 2: Bandages, Bad News, and Brave Faces
Savi bursts into the hospital, her voice echoing down the hall. “Where’s Sai?!” A nurse points to a room. Sai jumps up, waving a half-eaten biscuit. “Mama!” They spin in a tight hug. “You scared me!” Savi scolds, brushing dirt off Sai’s dress. Sai whispers, “Pookie Uncle said not to run off till I’m big. I promised.” Down the hall, Dr. Surva cleans cuts on Neil’s arm. “You’re lucky that bus crash didn’t kill you,” she mutters. Jeetu storms in, arms flailing. “You’re not a cop! Let real detectives handle Rajat’s case!” Neil glares. “Teju was murdered. Her body was planted on that bus to frame Rajat. Someone tried to kill me today too.” He flexes his sore arm. “But I’ll prove Teju’s innocent.” Jeetu groans, stomping out. Savi scribbles a note: Thank you for protecting my girl . She slips it into Neil’s coat pocket before leaving. Back in his cabin, Neil finds the note beside Teju’s photo. “A kid today taught me how to love without words,” he murmurs, tucking the paper beside the picture.
Scene 3: Numbers, Nightmares, and Empty Wallets
At home, Bhagyashree feeds Sai a banana. “Pookie Uncle gave me a sticker!” Sai shouts, slapping a cartoon-deer bandage on her palm. Srichand barges in, out of breath. “I called 50 people when you vanished!” He hugs Savi. “Family’s everything. Rajat gave me one, and I’ll guard you both.” Sai shoves a handmade card into Savi’s hands. “Happy Mother’s Day! See? My number!” Savi traces the crooked digits, eyes misty. Bhagyashree smirks. “Neil did good.” Srichand presses a small tracker into Savi’s palm. “Put this in her bag.” That night, Savi thrashes in bed, screaming as Rajat vanishes into smoke. Wide awake, she stares at his photo. Knock knock . Ridhi stands at the door. “Your U.S. school fees isn’t paid. Tomorrow’s the deadline.” Tara marches into the room. “I manage money now.” She dials Bhaskar, the company boss. “Fix our funds!” Bhaskar mumbles about “bankruptcy,” then hangs up. Savi’s phone buzzes—a message from an unknown number: Rajat’s accounts: empty .
Scene 4: Chalk, Cheeks, and Crushing Truths
At school, Sai clings to Neil’s leg. “You’ll miss me?” he laughs. The teacher chuckles. “You’re her hero!” Savi swoops in, grabbing antiseptic. “Let’s redo your bandage.” Sai whines, “Pookie Uncle does it better!” and races off. Vidhaan spots Neil, then tackles him in a bear hug. “You’re BACK!” he yells. Sai beams from a window. Later, Savi corners Bhaskar in a dusty office. “Why tell Tara, not me?” Bhaskar slams a folder on the desk. “Rajat’s broke. Debts everywhere.” Savi crumples into a chair. “He hid this? How?!” Bhaskar shrugs. Outside, rain lashes the windows as Savi stares at the papers, her world crumbling.
