Sachin grabs his bag and steps out for work. Roshni watches from the window, breath held until his car vanishes. “Finally,” she whispers, turning to a small boy sitting quietly at the table. She rushes to hug him. “What would you like to eat, beta?” The boy smiles shyly. “Paratha.” Before Roshni can reply, Shikha strides in, holding a basket of flowers. “Time for Sayali’s lesson!” she announces. Sayali follows, puzzled. “Why invite me here? You never liked training help.” “Old friends catch up,” Shikha says smoothly, placing petals on the table. “Today, we make garlands.”

Scene 2: Truths and Tears
As soon as Sayali leaves, Roshni hurries to pack the boy’s lunch. Her mother, Supriya, enters, watching silently. “He’s growing fast,” Supriya murmurs. “Won’t stop asking questions.” Roshni stiffens. “Tell him what I told you. I’m his aunt.” Supriya sighs. “He’s six, not stupid. Yesterday, he asked, ‘Why does my mom avoid me?’” “I’m not avoiding him!” Roshni snaps. “I need time to adopt him. He needs parents!”
Supriya raises her voice. “And how long will I pretend? My bones ache, but you won’t take him home!” Their argument grows louder. The boy creeps near the door, listening. Suddenly, Supriya slips. “Roshni, please—” “Stop calling me by my old name!” Roshni hisses. Too late. The boy gasps. “My mom’s name is Roshni?” Roshni freezes. “Krish… wait—” But he runs in, arms wrapping around her waist. “I knew it! You’re my real mom!” Roshni’s eyes well up. “Yes, beta. But nobody can know. If Sachin finds out, we’ll lose everything.” Krish pulls back. “Promise you’ll stay.” “I will,” she whispers.
Scene 3: A House of Lies
Roshni drags a suitcase toward the door. “Maa, you’ll stay with Shikha tonight,” she tells Supriya. “No more risks.” Supriya nods. “But hurry. Before he asks more questions.” The boy—Krish—tugs Roshni’s sari. “Will you visit tomorrow?” “Of course,” she says, kissing his forehead. Before they reach the gate, Sachin walks in, coat slung over his shoulder.
“Back already?” Roshni mutters. Sachin grins. “Trip canceled. Mind if I play with the kid?” “Yes!” Roshni blurts. “He’s… napping.” “I’m not!” Krish yells from the stairs. Sachin laughs. “Energetic little guy!” He ruffles Krish’s hair. Roshni clenches her fists. Meanwhile, Sayali finishes cooking in Shikha’s kitchen. “You’re kinder than Roshni said,” she admits. “She called you lazy.” Shikha stirs dal, unbothered. “People say things. Doesn’t mean they’re true.” Sayali eyes her. “You’re protecting someone, aren’t you?”
Scene 4: Silent Prayers
Krish stands at the window, staring at the stars. “Maa?” Roshni joins him. “Yes, beta?” “When the doctor lets me open my eyes, I want to see you first.” Roshni’s throat tightens. “Deal.” Krish pauses. “But what if something goes wrong?” “It won’t,” she insists. “We’ll be together soon.” Outside, Sachin calls, “Roshni! Bring tea!” She flinches. “Coming!” After pouring his tea, Sachin leans back. “Strange how attached you are to that kid.” Roshni forces a smile. “Who isn’t?” Alone later, she whispers to herself, “Please, let this work.”
