Netflix Launches HDR10+ Streaming for Enhanced Viewing

Netflix has officially introduced HDR10+ streaming, promising viewers a more dynamic and vibrant picture quality. Subscribers with eligible plans can now enjoy movies and TV shows with improved contrast and detail. The streaming giant also plans to expand its HDR10+ content library, enhancing the overall viewing experience for its users.
Netflix Adopts AV1 Codec for Superior Streaming
In a recent blog post, Netflix announced its support for HDR10+ streaming, a significant upgrade for its content delivery. This feature is available to customers subscribed to the premium plan, allowing them to stream on compatible televisions and devices. HDR10+ technology enhances the dynamic range and picture quality beyond what HDR10 offers, providing a more immersive viewing experience.
A key advantage of HDR10+ is its use of dynamic metadata, which enables devices to adjust image quality in real-time based on the specific scene being displayed. This contrasts with HDR10, which applies a uniform approach to all content, often resulting in less vibrant colors and contrast. By utilizing the AV1 video codec for HDR10+ content, Netflix can deliver high-quality video while optimizing bandwidth usage. This means viewers can experience less buffering, even on slower internet connections. Netflix has been employing the AV1 codec for standard dynamic range (SDR) content since November 2021, further enhancing its streaming capabilities.
How to Access HDR10+ Content on Netflix
To enjoy HDR10+ content on Netflix, users must subscribe to the Premium plan, which is priced at Rs. 649 per month in India. This plan allows access to 4K (Ultra HD) and HDR content on up to four devices simultaneously. Additionally, viewers need a compatible smart TV or streaming device that supports HDR10+ to fully experience the enhanced picture quality.
However, having a compatible device and a premium subscription is not enough; the content being watched must also be available in HDR10+ format. Netflix is actively working to expand its HDR10+ offerings, with plans to include this format across its entire HDR catalog by the end of the year. This expansion aims to provide users with improved streaming quality and a broader selection of content to enjoy.
