Women Empowerment: A Call to Action

In a powerful address during the Central Foundation Day of the All-Assam Sonowal Kachari Womenโ€™s Association (AASKWA) in Dibrugarh, Union Minister of Ports, Shipping & Waterways, Shri Sarbananda Sonowal, underscored the vital role of women in nation-building. He highlighted the government’s commitment to women’s empowerment, asserting that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi‘s leadership, women have become pivotal in fostering a self-reliant society. Sonowal’s remarks emphasized the need for women to lead societal change through hard work and perseverance.

Celebrating Womenโ€™s Role in Society

During his speech, Shri Sarbananda Sonowal articulated the significance of women in shaping a progressive society, quoting the ancient text, the Rigveda. He stated, “A mother inspires her children to acquire knowledge and guides them with courage.” This acknowledgment of women’s historical contributions reflects a broader understanding of their role in nurturing future generations. Sonowal emphasized that realizing one’s full potential requires effort and perseverance, reinforcing the idea that women are foundational to societal progress.

Moreover, he stressed the importance of balancing technological advancements with human values. “Progress is essential, but without humanity, it remains incomplete,” he remarked, urging attendees to prioritize ethical considerations in their pursuits. This call for a harmonious blend of progress and humanity resonates with the ongoing discourse on sustainable development and social responsibility.

Empowering the Sonowal Kachari Community

Shri Sonowal also addressed the Sonowal Kachari community, encouraging them to excel through skill, resilience, and dedication. He stated, “There are no shortcuts to success. Every achievement comes through competition and challenges.” His message was clear: the various ethnic groups in Assam must advance through education, culture, and sports. He urged the community to take action to uplift themselves rather than relying solely on words.

In his address, Sonowal called for women to take the lead in driving change within their communities. He cited Prime Minister Modi’s dedication, working nearly 18 hours a day, as an example for all to emulate. This emphasis on hard work and commitment serves as a motivational call for women to become active participants in their communities and contribute to national development.

A Vision for the Future

Reiterating the government’s ongoing efforts to empower women, Sonowal highlighted that millions of women across India have become self-reliant, significantly contributing to national progress and economic growth. He expressed a vision for 2047, aiming for a self-reliant and developed India, and called upon women from the Sonowal Kachari community to take a leading role in this mission. “A strong and empowered womenโ€™s force translates to accelerated national growth and prosperity,” he stated, reinforcing the idea that women’s empowerment is crucial for the country’s future.

The event was attended by notable figures, including Rashmirekha Sonowal, President of AASKWA, former legislator Jyotsna Sonowal, and other distinguished guests. Their presence underscored the collective commitment to advancing women’s roles in society and fostering a culture of empowerment within the community.
