4th Half Marathon Inspires Thousands in New Delhi

The 4th Half Marathon, organized by the Central Civil Services Cultural & Sports Board (CCSCSB) in collaboration with the Youth Hostel Association of India (YHAI), took place on March 16, 2025, at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in New Delhi. The event featured three race categoriesโ21 km, 10 km, and 5 kmโaimed at promoting fitness and a healthy lifestyle among participants aged 10 to 60. A total of 1,072 runners, including 833 men and 239 women, took part in this vibrant celebration of athleticism.
Distinguished Guests and Inspirational Leadership
The marathon was honored by the presence of Shri Praveen Kumar, a celebrated Indian Paralympic athlete, who served as the Guest of Honour. Kumar, a recipient of the Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award in 2024 and the Arjuna Award in 2021, has made significant contributions to para-athletics, bringing pride to the nation through his achievements. Alongside him were senior officials from the Department of Personnel & Training (DoPT), including Shri Manoj Johri, National Chairperson of YHAI, and Shri Amod Kanth, IPS (Retd), former DGP, among others. Shri Praveen Kumar’s presence served as a motivational force for participants, particularly the youth, as he encouraged them to embrace sports and fitness passionately. His address highlighted the importance of dedication and enthusiasm in pursuing athletic goals, inspiring many to strive for excellence.
Successful Event Execution and Participant Experience
The marathon was officially flagged off by the Joint Secretary (Welfare) and Director (Welfare) of DoPT, along with senior YHAI officials. The event was marked by enthusiastic participation from government officials and was executed seamlessly, with all races concluding on schedule. Comprehensive arrangements were made to ensure a smooth experience for participants, including registration and baggage counters, a help desk, warm-up and Zumba areas, cool-down zones, and refreshments. Medical teams and ambulances were stationed at the stadium and along the marathon route to ensure participant safety. Participants who completed the race were awarded medals, while trophies and prize cheques were presented to the top three finishers in each category. A total of 18 winnersโnine men and nine womenโwere recognized for their outstanding performances across the three race categories, adding to the competitive spirit of the event.

The event concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks to all participants and organizers, acknowledging their enthusiastic involvement that contributed to the marathon’s success. Shri Praveen Kumar’s motivational address resonated with many, reinforcing the importance of sports in fostering a healthy lifestyle. The 4th Half Marathon not only showcased athletic talent but also served as a platform for community engagement and the promotion of fitness across diverse age groups.
