Zoom Enhances Agentic Solutions with Tailored AI Companion

Zoom has recently unveiled a suite of new enterprise-focused features aimed at enhancing productivity and collaboration within its platform. The San Jose-based communications technology company is introducing several AI-driven tools, including the Custom AI Companion and Zoom Tasks, as part of its ongoing commitment to innovation. These updates come just a month after Zoom announced its agentic strategy, outlining a roadmap for future enhancements to its services.
Zoom Introduces New Agentic Features for Enterprises
In a recent press release, Zoom detailed the launch of several agentic tools designed to streamline workflows for businesses. Among these tools are the Custom AI Companion, Voice Recorder, Zoom Tasks, and Custom Avatars. The new features extend to existing products such as Zoom Meetings, Zoom Team Chat, and Zoom Whiteboard, enhancing their functionality and user experience.
Zoom Tasks, a notable addition to the AI Companion, is designed to detect, manage, and complete tasks within the Zoom Workplace. This feature can automatically generate tasks from various sources, including Zoom Team Chat, Mail, or Docs, converting them into actionable items that users can handle or delegate to the AI Companion. Additionally, Zoom Tasks offers insights and recommends next steps, utilizing a centralized task management tab to help teams track their activities effectively. Currently, this feature is available for users on Zoom Workplace plans, while the AI Companion capabilities are exclusive to paid subscribers.
Custom AI Companion Features and Pricing
The Custom AI Companion is another significant development aimed at enterprises. Powered by Zoom AI Studio, this tailored version of the AI Companion can connect with third-party AI agents to perform a wide range of tasks. Zoom has indicated that the agent will support Anthropic’s Model Context Protocol (MCP) and Google’s Agent to Agent Protocol, allowing for seamless integration with external tools.
Moreover, the Custom AI Companion can link to enterprise data through the new “Bring Your Own Index (BYOI)” feature. This integration enables connections with various data sources, including project management tools, cloud storage, email accounts, and customer databases. The Custom AI Companion also includes the Custom Avatars for Zoom Clips feature, which allows users to create AI-generated clips featuring avatars that resemble them, speaking scripts provided by the user. These clips can serve various purposes, such as employee orientation and project briefs. While Custom Avatars are currently part of the Custom AI Companion add-on, they are set to be released as a standalone product in May, with the add-on priced at $12 (approximately Rs. 1,020) per user per month.
Other Notable Features
Zoom is also enhancing its platform with a new Voice Recorder feature within the AI Companion. This tool can transcribe, summarize, and capture action items from Zoom Meetings or Zoom Phone calls, eliminating the need for manual note-taking during discussions. The Voice Recorder will be available in the mobile app later this month, with plans to extend its functionality to Zoom Rooms later this year.
Additionally, Zoom Team Chat is expanding its multilingual support by utilizing a native small language model (SLM) to improve translations from eight languages, including German, Spanish, Italian, French, Portuguese, Portuguese-Brazilian, Simplified Chinese, and Traditional Chinese into English. The platform will also introduce a feature that allows participants to mention individuals not in a chat or channel, sharing their contact information without adding them to the conversation. The AI Companion will facilitate scheduling meetings with multiple participants, suggesting optimal times based on data from across the platform.
Furthermore, the Zoom Revenue Accelerator is receiving agentic features that allow it to operate on admin-configured sales methodologies. Admins can deploy custom frameworks to ensure a consistent approach tailored to their organizationโs needs. The new features utilize large language models (LLMs) to analyze sales conversations, providing valuable customer insights. A deal explorer feature will enable users to extract sales insights through natural language prompts, allowing sales professionals to ask contextual questions and receive relevant answers. With these updates, Zoom continues to position itself as a leader in the communications technology space, enhancing its offerings to meet the evolving needs of enterprises.
