WWDC 2025: macOS Tahoe 26 Launches with Fresh Design

macOS Tahoe 26, the highly anticipated next major update from Apple, was unveiled at the Worldwide Developer Conference (WWDC) 2025. This update introduces a fresh design language called Liquid Glass, which enhances the user interface with updated icons, toolbars, and sidebars. Additionally, macOS Tahoe 26 brings new continuity features, including an integrated Phone app and improved Spotlight functionality, making it easier for users to navigate and manage their devices.

Compatibility of macOS Tahoe 26

Apple has confirmed that macOS Tahoe 26 will be available as a free over-the-air (OTA) software update later this year. The update will be compatible with a range of devices, including MacBook Air and Pro models with Apple silicon from 2020 and newer, as well as MacBook Pro models from 2019 and 2020. Other compatible devices include iMacs from 2020 and newer, Mac mini models from 2020 and newer, Mac Studio from 2022 and newer, and Mac Pro models from 2019 and newer. For developers eager to explore the new features, the macOS Tahoe 26 Developer beta is currently accessible for compatible Mac devices.

Liquid Glass Design in macOS 26

The new Liquid Glass design language is a significant highlight of macOS Tahoe 26. This innovative design mimics the appearance of real glass, providing a translucent look that enhances the overall aesthetic of the operating system. Toolbars and sidebars will be enveloped in this new material, reflecting the content displayed on the screen. The menu bar has been redesigned to be completely transparent, offering users more customization options. Users can now change folder colors and add symbols or emojis for personalization. The Liquid Glass UI will be available in both light and dark modes, ensuring a cohesive experience across different user preferences.

Enhanced Continuity Features in macOS 26

Apple is expanding the continuity features in macOS Tahoe 26 with the introduction of the Phone app. This new feature allows users to relay cellular calls from their nearby iPhone directly to their Mac. Users will have access to their recent calls, favorites, and voicemails, along with new functionalities like Call Screening and Hold Assist. Additionally, the Live Activities feature will enable users to see updates from their iPhone in the menu bar of their Mac when the devices are in proximity. Users can interact with these Live Activities directly from their Mac, enhancing the seamless integration between Apple devices.

Spotlight’s Major Upgrade in macOS 26

Spotlight, Apple’s built-in search feature, is receiving a significant upgrade in macOS Tahoe 26. Users will now be able to access not only first-party apps but also all installed applications, including those on their iPhones through iPhone Mirroring. The search results will be more organized, displaying files, folders, events, messages, and apps together, ranked by relevance. New filtering options will allow users to find documents stored on third-party cloud drives, and a new browse view will enable scrolling through device content. Furthermore, users can perform actions such as sending emails or creating notes directly within the Spotlight interface, enhancing its functionality and user experience.
