Windows 11 Update Introduces Top Features with Notable Drawback

The latest update for Windows 11 has begun rolling out, introducing a range of new features designed to enhance user experience. However, many of these features are exclusive to Copilot+ PCs, leaving users of traditional systems at a disadvantage. Additionally, the update comes with a significant file size, which may pose challenges for those with limited storage capacity.

New Features for Copilot+ PCs

One of the standout additions in the September update is the new home page for the Recall feature, which is available exclusively for Copilot+ PCs. This enhancement allows users to easily view their recent activities and access snapshots, streamlining task management. For those who utilize Recall, this update promises to improve workflow efficiency significantly.

Another notable improvement is the expansion of the AI Agent in Settings. Previously limited to devices with Snapdragon X processors, this feature is now available on Copilot+ laptops equipped with AMD and Intel CPUs. The AI Agent enables users to navigate Windows 11 using natural language queries, making it easier for less tech-savvy individuals to find settings and options.

Moreover, users can now customize which widgets appear on their Windows 11 lock screen. This flexibility in widget management is a welcome change, allowing for a more personalized user experience.

Enhancements to Windows Search and Task Manager

The September update also brings improvements to Windows search functionality. Users will now see images displayed in a grid view within search results, making it simpler to locate desired pictures. Additionally, a progress bar will indicate when the system is indexing files, providing users with a clearer understanding of search readiness.

Task Manager has received a minor yet significant correction. Microsoft has standardized the reporting of processor usage, ensuring that users see consistent CPU usage percentages across the board. This change addresses previous inconsistencies that could confuse users, enhancing the overall reliability of the Task Manager.

Other Notable Changes in the Update

In addition to the highlighted features, Microsoft has introduced a tutorial for its Click to Do feature, enhancing user guidance. The Windows Hello interface has also been refreshed, offering a more modern look for secure login functionality. Furthermore, users can now opt for a larger clock display in the notification center, which includes seconds, improving time visibility.

System permission prompts have been made clearer by dimming the background when they appear, reducing distractions and enhancing user focus during important tasks.

Challenges for Non-Copilot+ Users

While the September update introduces exciting features, there are notable drawbacks for users without Copilot+ PCs. Many of the new functionalities are exclusive to these advanced systems, leaving traditional Windows users without access to significant enhancements.

Additionally, the update’s size poses a challenge. The September patch is approximately 4GB, largely due to the inclusion of AI models for Copilot+ PCs. Unfortunately, even users with standard PCs will receive this hefty update, which may lead to longer download times and increased storage usage. This could be particularly problematic for users with limited SSD space, as they may find themselves struggling to accommodate the update.
