Windows 11 Copilot+ PCs Integrate AI Agent in Settings

Microsoft has begun the rollout of exciting new artificial intelligence (AI) features for Windows 11 users, specifically targeting those with Copilot+ PCs. The phased introduction will initially focus on devices powered by Snapdragon chipsets, with support for AMD and Intel systems to follow later. Among the new features are an AI agent in Settings, Photos Relight, a Sticker Generator in Paint, and enhancements to the Snipping Tool, many of which have already been tested by Windows Insiders through beta updates.

Phased Rollout of AI Features

In a recent blog post, Microsoft announced that the new AI features will be gradually introduced through a controlled feature rollout (CFR). This means that users will receive the updates in stages, ensuring a smooth transition. The rollout is currently prioritizing Copilot+ PCs equipped with Snapdragon chipsets, while users with AMD and Intel devices will gain access to these features at a later date. Some of the AI capabilities are already available through the Windows non-security preview update, allowing early adopters to experience the enhancements firsthand.

The standout feature among the new offerings is the AI agent in Settings, which was first introduced in beta back in June. This innovative tool allows users to input commands in natural language within the Settings search box. The AI agent can autonomously execute actions based on user requests, making it easier to navigate system settings. Users can issue complex commands, such as enabling quiet hours or connecting Bluetooth devices, and the AI will accurately interpret their intentions. This functionality is powered by Microsoft’s on-device AI model, Mu, which operates without requiring an internet connection.

Enhanced User Experience with Click to Do

Another significant addition is the Click to Do feature, which provides relevant actions when users select text or images. This functionality streamlines tasks by allowing users to create bulleted lists, draft documents or emails, and engage with Copilotโ€”all within the same interface. Microsoft has expanded this feature by adding four new actions to enhance user productivity.

One of the new actions is Practice in Reading Coach, which enables users to read aloud selected text and receive feedback from an AI coach. Additionally, the Read with Immersive Reader feature helps users improve their reading skills by creating a focused environment where they can customize text size, background, and have the text read aloud. Another useful addition is Draft with Copilot in Word, which allows users to generate a complete draft based on selected text. Furthermore, Click to Do now integrates with Microsoft Teams, enabling users to start or schedule meetings directly from selected email addresses.

Innovative Features in Photos and Paint

The Photos app has also received an upgrade with the introduction of the Relight feature, which allows users to enhance their images with professional lighting effects. Users can access this feature by selecting Edit in the Photos app. Relight enables the addition of up to three virtual light sources around the subject of an image, with options to customize the intensity, color, and position of the lights. Several presets are available to help users achieve the desired look for their photos.

Additionally, Microsoft Paint is getting a new Sticker Generator feature, which was initially released in the Windows Canary and Dev channels earlier this year. This feature, accessible through the Copilot menu, allows users to describe the sticker they wish to create. Copilot then generates four variations of the sticker, which users can select and add to their canvas. These stickers can also be copied and pasted into other applications or saved for future use, with a new Stickers option available in the toolbar for easy access.
