WhatsApp Tests New Video Call Feature for Android
WhatsApp is reportedly working on an innovative feature that will enhance video call options for Android users. According to recent findings, the messaging platform is testing a functionality that allows users to disable their camera before answering a video call. This development was uncovered through an APK teardown of a beta version of the app, indicating a significant shift in user experience for video communications.
New Camera Control for Video Calls
The new feature, identified by Android Authority, was found in the beta version 2.25.7.3 of the WhatsApp app for Android. Although it is not yet available to the general public, the publication successfully activated it through modifications to the app. Users will see an option labeled Turn off your video when they receive a video call, allowing them to answer in voice-only mode. This means that users can choose to engage in a conversation without being on camera, providing more privacy and flexibility.
If the camera is already off when the call is received, the app will display an Accept without video prompt for confirmation. Additionally, users will have the ability to activate their camera during the call using the Turn on your video option. Currently, WhatsApp does not offer a similar feature; users can only disable their video feed after answering a call. This upcoming functionality aligns WhatsApp more closely with features found in other video conferencing platforms like Google Meet and Microsoft Teams.
Additional Features in the Pipeline
WhatsApp is not stopping at just video call enhancements. Reports indicate that the platform is also developing several other features aimed at improving user experience. One notable addition is the UPI Lite functionality, which is expected to streamline the payment process by allowing users to conduct transactions without entering a PIN. This could significantly simplify financial interactions within the app.
Moreover, WhatsApp is set to introduce a new interface for its Meta AI chatbot. This update is anticipated to include an automatic voice mode and prompt suggestions, making it easier for users to interact with the AI.
