Webinar Tackles Last-Mile Economic Inclusion
The Deen Dayal Antyodaya Yojana – National Rural Livelihoods Mission (DAY-NRLM) hosted a significant webinar titled “Targeting Strategies for Reaching the Last Mile” yesterday. This event, part of the Samaveshi Aajeevika Yojana (SAY), is dedicated to economically empowering the most marginalized women in rural areas. Key officials from the Ministry of Rural Development and various partner organizations participated, highlighting the urgent need for effective strategies to identify and support the poorest households.
Key Participants and Objectives
The webinar was chaired by Shri T. K. Anil Kumar, Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Rural Development. He was joined by notable figures including Ms. Smriti Sharan, Joint Secretary; Dr. Monika Bhutunguru, Deputy Secretary; and representatives from BRAC International and Trickle Up. The event attracted various State Rural Livelihoods Missions (SRLMs) and partner organizations, all focused on enhancing economic inclusion for vulnerable populations.
During the session, participants discussed the methodologies employed by different SRLMs to identify extremely vulnerable households. The sharing of best practices included community-led identification techniques, such as Participatory Rural Appraisal (PRA), data-driven tools, and household surveys. These discussions aimed to refine approaches to ensure that the most marginalized groups are effectively reached and supported.
Importance of Targeting Vulnerable Households
Shri T. K. Anil Kumar emphasized the critical role of the Samaveshi Aajeevika Yojana in integrating excluded households into the NRLM’s framework. He stated that a specialized approach is essential for identifying the most vulnerable families and incorporating them into community institutions. Ms. Smriti Sharan reinforced this message, stressing that accurate identification of program participants is vital for the success of these initiatives.
Dr. Monika Bhutunguru echoed the need for ongoing platforms that facilitate knowledge sharing among states. She highlighted that such collaborations are crucial for enhancing efforts to reach the last mile, ensuring that no one is left behind in the pursuit of economic inclusion.
Innovative Approaches and Training Initiatives
A diverse panel of experts contributed to the discussion on innovative strategies for identifying and supporting vulnerable households. They explored best practices, challenges, and potential solutions in last-mile targeting and inclusion efforts. The insights gathered from these discussions are expected to inform future initiatives aimed at improving economic conditions for the poorest communities.
In collaboration with BRAC International and Trickle Up, DAY-NRLM unveiled a new training module titled “Inspire Change: Vision Building & Inclusive Livelihoods” during the webinar. This module is designed to equip participants with the necessary skills and knowledge to implement inclusive livelihood programs effectively, furthering the mission of economic empowerment for marginalized women.
