Webinar Drives Agricultural Reforms Post-Budget

The Ministry of Agriculture & Farmersโ Welfare hosted a pivotal Post-Budget Webinar titled “Agriculture and Rural Prosperity,” aimed at strategizing the implementation of key initiatives from the Union Budget 2025-26. Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed participants via video conference, emphasizing the importance of stakeholder engagement in enhancing the effectiveness of the budget’s agricultural provisions. The event featured ten thematic sessions focusing on various aspects of agricultural and rural development.

During the webinar, Prime Minister Narendra Modi underscored the significance of active participation from stakeholders in shaping the agricultural landscape. He noted that this budget marks the first full budget of the government’s third term, reflecting a commitment to continuity in policies while expanding the vision for a developed India, or Viksit Bharat. Modi acknowledged the valuable feedback received from stakeholders prior to the budget, which he deemed instrumental in crafting effective policies.
The Prime Minister called for discussions on enhancing the effectiveness of ongoing schemes, expressing confidence that stakeholder contributions would yield positive outcomes. He concluded by urging all participants to collaborate closely to ensure the swift implementation of budget initiatives, which he believes will empower rural communities and improve the livelihoods of farmers.
Key Themes and Discussions at the Webinar
The webinar featured participation from various stakeholders, including ministers, senior government officials, subject matter experts, industry leaders, and representatives from farmers’ producer organizations (FPOs). Discussions revolved around ten thematic areas aligned with the budget announcements related to agriculture and allied sectors. Key topics included the Prime Minister Dhan-Dhaanya Krishi Yojana, enhancing credit through Kisan Credit Cards, building rural resilience, and promoting self-reliance in pulses and high-yielding seeds.
Additionally, the sessions addressed the National Mission on High-Yielding Seeds, initiatives for cotton productivity, and the role of India Post in bolstering the rural economy. The framework for harnessing fisheries resources in the Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) and high seas was also a focal point, alongside support for the National Cooperative Development Corporation (NCDC).
Recommendations for Robust Implementation
Secretaries from various ministries presented recommendations on the sub-themes discussed during the webinar to the Minister of Agriculture & Farmersโ Welfare, Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan, and other dignitaries. Minister Chouhan commended the efforts of the secretaries and sub-committee members for their thorough deliberations. He emphasized that the recommendations would serve as a roadmap for the effective implementation of the budget announcements for 2025-26, aimed at fostering holistic agricultural development and rural prosperity.
Chouhan reiterated the importance of agriculture as the backbone of the Indian economy, highlighting the country’s potential to transform into a global food basket. He expressed confidence that the consolidated recommendations would significantly contribute to achieving the Prime Minister’s vision of self-reliance and a developed India.
