WAVES 2025 Animation Film Makers Challenge Reveals Top 42 Finalists
The Animation Film Makers Competition (AFC), part of the ‘Create in India Challenge Season-1’ at WAVES 2025, has announced its finalists. A total of 42 standout projects, showcasing original storytelling across various animation styles, have been selected for the final round. These talented creators will pitch their projects at the WAVE Summit in Mumbai from May 1-4, 2025, with the top three winners set to receive cash prizes of up to INR 5 Lakhs each.
Finalists Selected After Rigorous Evaluation
The selection of the 42 finalists followed a comprehensive nine-month evaluation process. This process was led by the Dancing Atoms team in collaboration with the WAVES team. An esteemed panel of national and international jury members played a crucial role in the selection, ensuring that only the most innovative projects made it to the final round. The jury included notable figures such as Anu Singh, Farrukh Dhondy, Dan Sarto, James Knight, Jan Nagel, Gianmarco Serra, and Indu Ramchandani. Their expertise helped identify projects that exemplified creativity and originality in animation.
The finalists represent a diverse group of creators, each bringing unique narratives and artistic styles to the competition. Among them are Abhijeet Saxena, Anika Rajesh, Anirban Majumder, and many others, showcasing a wide range of talent from across the country. Significant Economic Impact and Global Opportunities
The projects presented by the finalists have the potential to create substantial economic impact, with each animated VFX feature film capable of generating employment for 100 to 300 individuals. The overwhelming response to the competition, with approximately 1900 registrations and 419 entries from both amateur and professional creators worldwide, underscores its relevance. The selected projects will be pitched to various OTT platforms and key industry players, further enhancing their visibility and potential for success.
Mentorship and Learning Opportunities for All Participants

Regardless of their selection status, contestants benefited from masterclasses led by industry leaders, including Academy Award winner Guneet Monga and acclaimed producer Shobu Yarlagadda. These sessions focused on refining pitching skills and navigating the complexities of the animation industry, providing invaluable insights to all involved.
Dancing Atoms Studios founder Saraswathi Buyyala is actively engaging with embassies from 17 countries to facilitate collaborations for the top 42 projects. Meetings are also being scheduled with prominent distributors to promote these projects. The finalists’ works include a rich variety of formats, such as feature films, TV series, AR/VR experiences, and short films, catering to diverse audiences and potential collaborators.
