VP Launches New Skill Development Campus

The Vice-President of India, Shri Jagdeep Dhankhar, inaugurated the Advanced Entrepreneurship and Skill Development Programme (A-ESDP) Campus at the National Agri-Food and Biomanufacturing Institute (NABI) in Mohali. This initiative aims to enhance entrepreneurship and skill development in the agricultural sector. During the inauguration, the Vice-President expressed his deep connection to agriculture, stating, โI am the son of a farmer. A son of the farmer will always commit himself to truth.โ He emphasized the importance of rural development, asserting that the future of India lies in its villages.
The Importance of Rural Development
Shri Dhankhar highlighted that Indiaโs soul resides in its villages. He believes that the rural system is the backbone of the nation. โThe path to a developed India passes through its villages,โ he stated. This vision reflects a commitment to uplift rural communities and improve their living standards. The Vice-President pointed out that historically, villages were self-sufficient. He called for the evolution of mechanisms that support micro-industries in rural areas. These industries can add value to agricultural products and create jobs for rural youth.
He also mentioned the government’s efforts to support farmers through policies that enhance their market access. โThe government provides facilities to hold on to the stock by massive warehousing and cooperative movement,โ he noted. This support is crucial for ensuring that farmers receive fair prices for their produce. The Vice-President urged the audience to play a role in educating farmers about these benefits. He emphasized that no farmer should be shortchanged, and institutions like NABI must connect with local agricultural centers to facilitate this.
Revitalizing Agricultural Research
During his address, Shri Dhankhar stressed the significance of impactful research in agriculture. He stated that all institutions must pass a “litmus test” to measure their contributions to society. โResearch for the sake of research is not what the nation needs,โ he asserted. Instead, research should aim to create tangible benefits for the community and the economy.
He encouraged researchers to focus on practical applications that can improve agricultural practices. โResearch is not just about publishing papers; it should have a real impact,โ he explained. The Vice-President called for a shift in focus towards research that addresses the challenges faced by farmers and enhances productivity. He believes that integrating technology into farming practices is essential for improving efficiency.
Embracing Technology in Agriculture
Shri Dhankhar highlighted the need for farmers to stay updated on technological advancements. He pointed out that many farmers cling to outdated equipment, unaware of the benefits of modern technology. โA farmer is by and large clinging to his tractor,โ he noted, stressing the importance of adopting new, environmentally friendly, and fuel-efficient technologies.
He urged farmers to form small groups to market their products effectively. โYou donโt need anybodyโs help. You only have to know your inner strength to change your economy to a very high level,โ he encouraged. This collective approach can empower farmers and improve their economic conditions.
The Vice-President’s vision for rural development and agricultural innovation reflects a commitment to transforming India’s agricultural landscape. By fostering entrepreneurship and integrating technology, the A-ESDP aims to create a sustainable future for farmers and rural communities.
