Vodafone Idea Launches 5G Services in Chandigarh and Patna

Vodafone Idea (Vi) has announced the expansion of its 5G services to two additional cities in India, Chandigarh and Patna. This rollout follows the initial launch in Mumbai, where users have been enjoying high-speed internet. The telecom operator, in collaboration with Samsung, is utilizing advanced technology and artificial intelligence to enhance network performance. Vi plans to further extend its 5G coverage to more major cities in the coming month.

Details of the 5G Rollout

Starting Monday, users in Chandigarh and Patna can access Vodafone Idea’s 5G services as part of the initial rollout phase. The company has partnered with Samsung to implement virtualized Radio Access Network (vRan) technology, which aims to improve network flexibility and performance. Additionally, Vi has integrated an AI-based Self-Organizing Network (SON) system to optimize the performance of its 5G network. Since launching its 5G services in March, Vi has reported a significant uptake, with over 70 percent of eligible users actively utilizing the service, contributing to 20 percent of the total network traffic.

The telecom operator has also enabled 5G services in 11 major cricket stadiums across India, coinciding with the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season. This strategic move highlights Vi’s commitment to enhancing user experience during high-profile events.

Future Expansion Plans

Vodafone Idea has ambitious plans for further expansion of its 5G services. The company is set to introduce its 5G network in Bengaluru and Delhi next month. This expansion aligns with the increasing penetration of 5G handsets and the growing demand for high-speed internet services in India. Vi’s proactive approach aims to meet the needs of its users and capitalize on the rising trend of 5G adoption.

The company emphasizes that its 5G coverage expansion is a response to the evolving telecommunications landscape in India. As more users transition to 5G-compatible devices, Vi is positioning itself to be a key player in the market.

Pricing and Plans

Vodafone Idea offers competitive pricing for its 5G services. Prepaid users can access 5G connectivity starting at Rs. 299 per month, which includes 1GB of data per day for a validity period of 28 days. For postpaid users, the Max 451 plan, priced at Rs. 451, provides 50GB of data. Importantly, all plans include unlimited 5G data wherever coverage is available. However, Vi has indicated that this offering is part of an introductory promotion and may be temporary.

As the demand for 5G services continues to grow, Vodafone Idea is keen to attract new customers while retaining existing ones through its appealing pricing structure and robust service offerings. The company’s focus on enhancing network performance and expanding coverage is expected to play a crucial role in its future success in the competitive telecom market.
