Vande Bharat Sleeper Train Prototype Unveiled
The Indian Railways is set to enhance its passenger services with the introduction of the Vande Bharat Sleeper trainset. The first prototype has been manufactured and is now ready for field trials. The rollout of this innovative train is contingent upon the successful completion of these trials. Union Minister of Railways, Information & Broadcasting, and Electronics & Information Technology, Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw, announced this development during a session in the Rajya Sabha. He highlighted that the Vande Bharat Sleeper trains are designed for long and medium-distance journeys and come equipped with modern features and passenger amenities. This article delves into the key features of the Vande Bharat Sleeper train and its significance for Indian Railways.
Advanced Safety Features
One of the standout aspects of the Vande Bharat Sleeper train is its commitment to safety. The train is fitted with KAVACH, an advanced train collision avoidance system that enhances safety during operations. Additionally, it complies with the EN-45545 HL3 fire safety standards, ensuring that passengers are protected in case of fire emergencies.
The design of the train also emphasizes crashworthiness. It features semi-permanent couplers and anti-climbers that minimize the impact during collisions. The carbody design adheres to European standards, which further enhances passenger safety. Moreover, the train is equipped with a regenerative braking system, which not only improves energy efficiency but also contributes to safer stopping distances.
In emergencies, communication is crucial. The Vande Bharat Sleeper train includes an emergency talk-back unit that allows passengers to communicate with the Train Manager or Loco Pilot. This feature ensures that help can be summoned quickly if needed. Overall, the safety features of the Vande Bharat Sleeper train set a new benchmark for passenger safety in Indian Railways.
Enhanced Passenger Amenities
The Vande Bharat Sleeper train is designed with passenger comfort in mind. It includes several modern amenities that cater to the needs of travelers. For instance, the train has accommodation and accessible toilets for passengers with restricted mobility, ensuring inclusivity for all travelers.
The train also boasts centrally controlled automatic plug doors, which enhance safety and convenience when boarding and alighting. The wider gangways allow for easier movement within the train, making it more comfortable for passengers.
For those traveling in upper berths, the ergonomically designed ladder provides ease of access, making it simpler for passengers to climb. Furthermore, the train features a centralized coach monitoring system that keeps track of essential amenities such as air conditioning and saloon lighting. This system ensures that passengers enjoy a comfortable environment throughout their journey.
Additionally, CCTV surveillance cameras are installed in all coaches, enhancing security and providing peace of mind to passengers. These amenities reflect the Indian Railways’ commitment to improving the travel experience for all passengers.
Current Status of Vande Bharat Services
As of December 2, 2024, the Indian Railways operates 136 Vande Bharat train services with Chair Car Coaches across its network. Among these, 16 services cater specifically to stations in Tamil Nadu. The longest Vande Bharat service operates between Delhi and Banaras, covering a distance of 771 kilometers.
The introduction of new train services, including the Vande Bharat variants, is an ongoing process. The Indian Railways evaluates the feasibility of these services based on traffic demand, operational capabilities, and resource availability. This approach ensures that the expansion of services aligns with the needs of the traveling public.
The Vande Bharat Sleeper train is expected to play a crucial role in enhancing long-distance travel options for passengers. With its modern features and focus on safety and comfort, it represents a significant advancement in Indian Railways’ efforts to modernize its fleet and improve passenger services.
