UPI Services Face Major Outage Across India

On Saturday morning, a significant outage disrupted Unified Payments Interface (UPI) services throughout India, impacting thousands of users. Major platforms such as Paytm, PhonePe, Google Pay, and Bhim were affected, along with key financial institutions including HDFC Bank and State Bank of India. This incident marks the fourth disruption of UPI services in just one month, raising concerns among users reliant on digital transactions.
UPI Services Down in India
According to data from DownDetector, over 2,000 users reported issues with UPI transactions starting around 11:26 AM IST, with complaints peaking at 1:02 PM IST. This outage follows a series of disruptions that have plagued India’s most popular digital payment system, which experienced two significant outages within the previous week. The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) acknowledged the situation, stating on their official X account that they are facing intermittent technical issues that have led to partial declines in UPI transactions. They assured users that efforts are underway to resolve the problems and expressed regret for the inconvenience caused.
NPCI is currently facing intermittent technical issues, leading to partial UPI transaction declines. We are working to resolve the issue, and will keep you updated. We regret the inconvenience caused.

UPI Services Suffer from Multiple Outages
This recent outage marks the fourth disruption of UPI services in a month. The first incident occurred on March 26, 2025, when users were unable to complete transactions for over three hours. A second major outage followed on March 31, attributed to payment processing issues linked to bank-side delays during the financial year-end closing. A brief disruption on April 2 was caused by “latency in the UPI network.” These repeated outages have left many users frustrated, as they rely heavily on UPI for daily transactions.
Social media platforms have seen a surge of complaints from users affected by the outages. One user shared their distress, stating, “I am stuck at the airport with a delayed flight, a lost wallet with all my cash and cards, and then I discovered UPI was also not accepting any payments.” Another user echoed similar sentiments, expressing frustration over the frequency of UPI crashes, stating, “We rely on it daily, but the system keeps failing us.” The ongoing issues highlight the critical need for reliable digital payment systems in India.
