Upcoming Budget Session of Parliament 2025

On January 30, 2025, a significant meeting took place in the Parliament House Complex, New Delhi. The meeting was chaired by Shri Raj Nath Singh, the Union Minister of Defence. It brought together leaders from various political parties to discuss the upcoming Budget Session of Parliament. This session is crucial for shaping the financial landscape of the country for the upcoming fiscal year. The meeting was organized by Shri Kiren Rijiju, the Union Minister of Parliamentary Affairs. A total of 52 leaders from 36 political parties, including several ministers, participated in this important discussion.

Key Details of the Upcoming Budget Session

The Budget Session of Parliament is set to commence on January 31, 2025, and is expected to conclude on April 4, 2025. During this period, both Houses will have a recess starting on February 13, 2025, and will reconvene on March 10, 2025. This break will allow the Standing Committees to examine the Demands for Grants from various Ministries and Departments. The session will consist of 27 sittings, with 9 sittings in the first part and 18 sittings in the second part, spread over a total of 64 days.

Shri Raj Nath Singh opened the meeting with introductory remarks, welcoming all attendees. Following his address, Shri Kiren Rijiju provided an overview of the session’s schedule and objectives. The meeting emphasized the importance of cooperation among political parties to ensure a smooth and productive session. The leaders were reminded of their roles in discussing and debating the financial matters that will impact the nation.

Legislative and Financial Business on the Agenda

The upcoming session will primarily focus on financial matters related to the Union Budget for 2025-26. It will also include discussions on the Motion of Thanks for the Presidentโ€™s Address. In addition to financial discussions, essential legislative business will also be addressed. Shri Rijiju announced that the Economic Survey of India will be presented on January 31, 2025, followed by the Union Budget on February 1, 2025.

Tentatively, 16 items of legislative business and 3 items of financial business have been identified for discussion during this session. The legislative agenda includes several important bills, such as the Banking Laws (Amendment) Bill and the Railways (Amendment) Bill. The financial business will cover discussions and voting on various grants and appropriations for the fiscal year.

During the meeting, leaders from different political parties shared their views on various issues they plan to raise during the Budget Session. They expressed their commitment to cooperating with the government to ensure that the session runs smoothly. The Minister of Parliamentary Affairs thanked all leaders for their active participation and for sharing their insights.
