OV Desk

In honor of the valor and sacrifices made by the heroes of the Kargil War, the Indian Army has embarked on a Pan-India Motorcycle Expedition today, marking the 25th anniversary of India’s triumph over Pakistan in the Kargil conflict of 1999. This historic journey aims to showcase the significant contributions of our brave soldiers and pay homage to their enduring legacy.

Three teams of eight motorcyclists each have set out on this symbolic journey from three corners of the country – Dinjan in the East, Dwarka in the West, and Dhanushkodi in the South. Spanning diverse terrains and challenging routes, these riders symbolize the unity and resilience of our Armed Forces. Along their journey, they will connect with Kargil War heroes, Veterans, and Veer Naris residing at various locations en route, paying homage at War Memorials, raising awareness, and inspiring youth to join the Indian Army.

The expedition comprises three routes:

  • Eastern Route: From Dinjan to Delhi, covering approximately 2,489 kilometers via Jorhat, Guwahati, Binaguri, Katihar, Danapur, Gorakhpur, Lucknow, and Agra.
  • Western Route: From Dwarka to Delhi, covering approximately 1,565 kilometers via Dhrangadhra, Ahmedabad, Udaipur, Jodhpur, Ajmer, Jaipur, and Alwar.
  • Southern Route: From Dhanuskodi to Delhi, covering approximately 2,963 kilometers via Madurai, Coimbatore, Bengaluru, Anantapur, Hyderabad, Nagpur, Bhopal, Gwalior, and Alwar.

All three teams will converge in Delhi on 26th June before proceeding along two different routes to Dras. One route passes through Ambala, Amritsar, Jammu, Udampur, and Srinagar covering 1,085 kilometers, while the other traverses Chandimandir, Manali, Sarchu, Nyoma, Tangtse, and Leh covering 1,509 kilometers. The expedition will culminate at Gun Hill in Dras, a site of strategic importance during the Kargil War, symbolizing bravery and dedication.

Flag-off and flag-in ceremonies at prominent locations will be conducted in the presence of eminent dignitaries, including senior military officials, Veterans, Veer Naris, and distinguished guests. Kargil War Veterans and Veer Naris will be felicitated for their sacrifices and unwavering support during the conflict.

Led by the Regiment of Artillery, which played a pivotal role in Operation Vijay, the expedition honors the precision, firepower, and strategic support provided by the artillery in ensuring the success of the mission. As the riders traverse the nation, they carry with them tales of courage, sacrifice, and patriotism, making this expedition not just a tribute but a symbol of the enduring spirit of the Indian Army.
