Union Minister Launches PROMPT Portal for Real-Time Thermal Power Project Monitoring

In a significant move towards enhancing the efficiency and transparency of India’s power sector, the Union Minister of Power and Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs, Shri Manohar Lal, today launched the Portal for Online Monitoring of Projects โ€“ Thermal (PROMPT) in New Delhi.

During the launch event, Shri Manohar Lal emphasized the critical role of electricity as a key driver of economic activities in the country. He pointed out that the rising power demand necessitates the timely completion of ongoing schemes and thermal projects. “The PROMPT portal is a transformative tool that will enable transparent, coordinated, and effective functioning of the power sector in India,” the minister remarked.

The Central Electricity Authority (CEA) has been actively engaged in monitoring under-construction power projects through site visits, developer interactions, and periodic reviews. These efforts are aimed at identifying and resolving critical issues to ensure the timely commissioning of power projects. With the launch of PROMPT, this monitoring process has now taken a digital leap forward.

Key Features of PROMPT:

  • Real-Time Tracking and Analysis: The portal offers a centralized platform for monitoring various aspects of project execution, allowing for the swift identification and resolution of potential issues.
  • Transparency and Accountability: By digitizing the monitoring process, the portal promotes greater transparency in project management. This is expected to lead to a reduction in time and cost overruns while enhancing project execution efficiency.
  • Resource Optimization: PROMPT ensures predictable resource availability, which is crucial in meeting the countryโ€™s electricity demand at reasonable prices, ultimately benefiting consumers.

The portal was developed with assistance from NTPC, a key player in India’s power sector. It allows project managers and stakeholders to make informed decisions promptly, ensuring that potential delays are identified early and addressed swiftly. To ensure smooth adoption, hands-on training sessions have been conducted for all project developers, and most have already started entering data into the system every month.

The Ministry of Power’s commitment to adopting innovative digital solutions like PROMPT reflects its dedication to enhancing the efficiency, transparency, and effectiveness of Indiaโ€™s power sector. The launch of this portal marks a significant step towards ensuring reliable and affordable electricity for all.
