Union Minister Engages with Locals in Kathua
Union Minister of State Dr. Jitendra Singh recently held a public durbar in the village of Parole, located in the Barnoti block of Kathua district. This event is part of his ongoing outreach campaign aimed at connecting with citizens and addressing their concerns directly. During this visit, he inaugurated several road projects that promise to enhance connectivity in the region. This durbar marks the second such event in Kathua within a fortnight and the fourth in recent months, highlighting the minister’s commitment to public engagement.
Public Durbar: A Platform for Local Voices
The public durbar serves as a vital platform for residents to voice their concerns and seek solutions. Locals from Parole and surrounding areas gathered to discuss various issues directly with Dr. Singh. Many grievances were addressed on the spot, showcasing the effectiveness of this initiative. The minister emphasized that the government, under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, is dedicated to improving the quality of life for all citizens, regardless of their background.
Dr. Singh noted that these public meetings are not just about listening but also about taking action. He and his team are now conducting these durbars at both block and panchayat levels. This approach aims to bridge gaps in local governance and ensure that citizens receive the services they need. The public durbar has become a one-stop solution for residents to connect with the minister and seek redress for their issues, reflecting a proactive approach to governance.
Infrastructure Development: Roads for Progress
During the event, Dr. Jitendra Singh inaugurated multiple road projects that are crucial for local development. Among the projects launched was the L034-Block Boundary Kathua to Boura road, which is part of the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY). This 14.2 km road fulfills a long-standing demand from the local population and enhances access to the historic Mata Sundri temple and nearby habitations.
The road was sanctioned in two phases, with an estimated cost of over Rs. 2.36 crore. Dr. Singh had laid the foundation stone for this project back in December 2016. Additionally, he inaugurated two other roads virtually, including the 11.83 km L021 to Champal road and a 2.5 km stretch from L021 Dhar to Korkhana. These projects are expected to benefit hundreds of residents, significantly improving their connectivity to essential services and the district headquarters.
Dr. Singh reiterated the government’s commitment to enhancing infrastructure in rural areas, particularly in Jammu and Kashmir. He assured the public that more road projects are nearing completion and will soon be inaugurated, further facilitating travel and economic growth in the region.
Economic Growth and Future Prospects
Dr. Jitendra Singh highlighted the geographical significance of Kathua, predicting that it will soon become a hub for commercial activities in North India. This transformation is expected to create numerous job opportunities for local youth and stimulate the local economy. He pointed out that Kathua is home to North Indiaโs first Bio-tech Park and a Seed Processing Plant, which are set to boost agricultural productivity and innovation.
Moreover, the minister announced that North India’s only Homeopathic College will begin its first academic session this year, further enhancing educational opportunities in the district. He also mentioned that the next recruitment drive for the Army will take place in March, providing additional employment prospects for the youth.
