On a special occasion, Dr. Jitendra Singh, the Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Science and Technology, hosted a luncheon for students from Jammu & Kashmir. These young students are in Delhi as part of the Bharat Darshan programme, a Government of India initiative conducted by the Jammu & Kashmir Police. The programme aims to give these children an opportunity to explore various parts of the country, broaden their horizons, and learn more about different sectors, especially those related to science and technology.

Encouragement for Learning and Innovation

During the luncheon, Dr. Jitendra Singh praised the students for their curiosity, sharp observation skills, and intelligence. He encouraged them to take full advantage of new technologies, advising them to explore modern innovations like artificial intelligence, space technology, and biochemistry. The Minister also spoke about the potential for growth in these fields, especially for the younger generation.

He urged the students to use their smartphones and digital devices as powerful tools for learning, emphasizing how the vast amounts of information available online can help them in their studies and personal growth. “Your smartphones can be your gateway to knowledge,” he told the students.

Schemes and Opportunities for Skill Development

Dr. Singh also introduced the students to various government schemes designed to help people develop new skills. He talked about the Pradhanmantri Vishwakarma Yojana, which focuses on helping individuals, especially those with ancestral skills, to enhance and modernize their knowledge. The scheme offers training and resources that can help future generations carry forward and improve the skills passed down by their forefathers.

The Minister highlighted how this initiative can be especially beneficial to the youth of Jammu & Kashmir, providing them with opportunities to acquire new skills while keeping their cultural traditions alive.

Success Stories from Jammu & Kashmir

Dr. Singh also shared success stories from Jammu & Kashmir, focusing on initiatives that have transformed local communities. He mentioned the women-run self-help groups in the region, which have made impressive progress in doubling apple yields and increasing the shelf life of produce. These efforts not only benefit the local economy but also create employment opportunities for women in the area.

He also discussed the Purple Revolution, which is empowering the youth of Jammu & Kashmir. Many young people have started growing lavender and producing perfume and essential oils from the plant. These activities have proven to be profitable ventures, and the Minister encouraged the students to explore similar innovative paths in their future careers.

Inspire Teachers to Incorporate New Perspectives

Dr. Jitendra Singh also had a message for the students’ teachers. He encouraged the children to ask their teachers to introduce them to new perspectives and ideas in their education. The Minister believes that incorporating fresh ideas and innovations into the curriculum will benefit the students, preparing them for a rapidly changing world.

He also made a request to the Jammu & Kashmir Police officers, who were part of the programme, to organize workshops for teachers. These workshops could help teachers learn new methods of engaging students and incorporating modern technology and ideas into their teaching.

A Memorable Tour for Students

Around 70 students participated in this programme, along with seven officers from the Jammu & Kashmir Police. Many of these students come from families who have lost loved ones in the line of duty. This tour began on October 9, 2024, and the students have already visited Bengaluru, where they explored the Visvesvaraya Industrial and Technological Museum, among other places.

Their visit to Delhi marks an important stop in their journey. Tomorrow, they will return home by air, bringing with them not only memories of their travels but also the inspiration and knowledge they have gained from the various interactions.

Strengthening the Future of Jammu & Kashmir’s Youth

This programme, part of the Bharat Darshan initiative, is designed to give students from Jammu & Kashmir the chance to experience different cultures, learn from professionals, and gain exposure to the technological advancements of the country. With initiatives like these, the Government of India hopes to build a brighter future for the youth of the region, empowering them with the tools and knowledge they need to succeed.

Through interactions like this one, Dr. Jitendra Singh is ensuring that young people from Jammu & Kashmir not only feel supported by the government but are also motivated to explore modern innovations, develop their skills, and contribute to the growth and development of their region.
