ULIP Achieves 100 Crore API Transactions
The Unified Logistics Interface Platform (ULIP) has marked a major milestone by processing over 100 crore API transactions, solidifying its position as a transformative force in India’s logistics industry. This achievement aligns with the government’s initiatives under the Make in India program and aims to support the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047. Union Minister of Commerce and Industry, Piyush Goyal, praised the collaborative efforts that made this success possible, emphasizing the platform’s role in enhancing the Ease of Doing Business in India.
ULIP’s Impact on Logistics Efficiency
ULIP has revolutionized the logistics landscape by bridging critical data gaps and enabling automation across various sectors. The platform facilitates real-time cargo tracking and simplifies regulatory compliance, benefiting businesses of all sizes. Currently processing an average of 1 crore API transactions weekly, ULIP democratizes access to logistics data, empowering micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), startups, and large corporations alike. This digital transformation is reshaping the competitive environment, breaking down monopolistic barriers, and fostering innovation.
Notably, major manufacturing companies such as Prism Johnson, Asian Paints, and Tata Steel are utilizing ULIP’s APIs to enhance their supply chain processes. By automating transporter verification and streamlining operations, these companies are better equipped to manage their logistics efficiently. Furthermore, ULIP’s multi-modal APIs provide real-time shipment estimated times of arrival (ETAs), which are crucial for just-in-time inventory management, ultimately leading to significant cost savings for manufacturers.
Driving Sustainability in Logistics
In addition to improving logistics efficiency, ULIP is also contributing to sustainability efforts in the industry. Businesses like Century Plywoods and TCIL are leveraging the platform to select greener transport options, thereby reducing emissions and aligning with India’s carbon reduction goals. This focus on sustainability not only benefits the environment but also enhances the corporate social responsibility profiles of participating companies.
Transporters and logistics service providers, including Cuttack Carriers, Road Pilot, and Intugine, are adopting ULIP to implement digital documentation and automated gate processes. These advancements help reduce delays and congestion at logistics hubs, further streamlining freight movement. The collaboration between private sector players and government departments is fostering data-driven decision-making, which is essential for the growth of a modern logistics ecosystem.
ULIP’s Vision for a Self-Reliant India
Launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on September 17, 2022, under the National Logistics Policy (NLP), ULIP aims to create an integrated and efficient logistics sector. The platform connects 43 systems from 11 ministries through 129 APIs, covering over 1,800 data fields. With more than 1,300 registered companies and over 350 agreements signed, ULIP is emerging as a vital tool for operational efficiency and innovation in India’s logistics sector.
NICDC Logistics Data Services Ltd. (NLDSL), the organization behind ULIP, has been instrumental in transforming the logistics landscape through innovative solutions like the Logistics Data Bank (LDB). Established on December 30, 2015, NLDSL focuses on leveraging Information and Communication Technology (ICT) to enhance efficiency in the logistics sector. This joint venture between the Government of India and Japanese IT giant NEC Corporation is committed to driving the digital transformation of logistics in India.
